call me sad but i was thinking about this post last night in bed... hehe thats that this site does to people. and to be fair, it seems that the only logical solution was that someone got a copy of your key tag barcode thing and used that to make a key suitable enough to work with the buttons on the fob (i.e. unlock and lock) however the immobiliser code failed in the key for whatever reason (or the physical key itself). parhaps it would be worth posting in the dealer section about the garage you took it too and see if ANY one else has had suspect goings on.

It's weird. I tested the alrm the other day, locked the car with the remote and left the door open and is went off but I am not sure if a sensor in the door trigured it or a motion sensor.

It sounds similar to a problem I have once with my old V reg MkII Ibiza Cupra.
Locked religiously every time.
Came down one morning to find the doors open and my sub removed from my boot.
Theiving little ********!!!
Doors unlocked and no alarm set off.
Thorough testing revealed that if the passenger door was not shut correctly, the car did not complain when it was locked (it did operate the remote central locking) and the door could be pulled open. (The open door was locked)
When the door was opened, it operated the central locking and unlocked the whole car including the boot.
No alarm set off.

Yeah,

I dont think the world is so high tech and all this technology is so vulnerable that any bloke can just pirate your keys. After all the manufacturers spend millions on this.... and if they wanted the car that bad... a Simple OLD fashioned HIGHJACK still works.

But... even if you forget to lock it... it auto-locks.... thats why i cant figure it out...

Unless a door was not properly closed, I think then it does not auto-lock.

And a nice LEON with a half opened door is a reasonably easy target for a dirty thief.

You left the car, pressed the remote... it blinked... looked locked... Went home.

Maybe a rear or passenger door was not properly closed...

Its the only thing i can think of at this stage.

You sure? If you unlock it and then don't open a door for 30 seconds, it auto-RElocks. But if you've been driving it, you get out and you forget to lock it then it would stay unlocked indefinitely, no?

I dont have the car now to check, but I will test soon.

As far as i can remember... it auto locks , but if you do not have a door properly closed shut it will not close automatically.

Even if you use the remote it wont lock properly.

Thats why I think you are sure you locked it by pressing the remote...it flashed the indicators etc etc ... like normal.... but it didn't really lock due to an open door which you did not spot.

That day did you carry any passengers in the car ?

Mine doesn't auto lock if a door as been opened.

Mine also doesn't flash the indicator or beep (if you have them activated) if a door is not fully home.

Correct.

It will only autolock if no doors have been opened.

what a strange situation though. My money would be on the "forgot to lock it" option.

I went for weeks not knowing that the solenoid for the boot lock was broke . all the doors would lock but not the boot it was only when i forgot to unlock the car and opened the boot did i realise that the lock wasn't engaging . The alarm did go off tho !

Any chance your solenoid could be knackered and they got in thru the boot ?

any car could easily be nicked these day and age.
since every thing is run off software.
maybe someone with inside information details at seat
or within the VAG group has gone through the pain of
getting a dublicate key.
your details and mine at the dealers and DLVA are
widely available to the hihest bidder.
just be vigilant.

I can't really comment on VAG cars or any other but no BMW from about 95-96 (i think) on has been driven away without having the key, which has to be coded by BMW themselves.

Obviously like you say somebody could either work at a dealer so order a new key but then its very easy to trace, or use false documents to order a key.

That's why everyone with a Leon needs to remove the barrel & get the de-lock kit. This easily solves a security problem, and takes 5 mins to complete for a DIY novice.

The Fuse38 is relocated just incase it blows, leaving all doors locked, and no way to access it without smashing open the dash !

I have had a play with this button but how do you know if the sensors are switched on or off?

lock the car with the windows open, wait 30 seconds then lean in and waive your arms around, if the alarm goes off theyre still on. i noticed this one day on my old polo when id locked it with a window open, the alarm went off just because i walked past it
