Lowering my FR+

To alter the height of the car on a coilover, simply tighten or loosen the bottom spring cup to either tighten or loosen the spring. A tighter spring/lower car means a harder ride and a looser spring/higher car means a softer ride. The dampening adjustment gives you some room to make the ride softer or harder (depending on your lowness). This is done with a rod that slides into the top of the damper and adjusts the internals of the damper, allowing it to compess more or less.

Well that's my understanding of it

Tightening and loosening will only change the stiffness of the ride if the spring is of a variable rate which I believe most are these days.


I was also wondering what changes in camber are caused due to lowering the car? E.g -.5deg for every 20mm lowered?

Some kits you need to state your axle weight, some it's engine size.

For every 40mm that you lower by, you'll see approximately 1.3 - 1.4 degrees of negative camber so that's roughly 0.7 degrees for your 20mm.

I'd say go for the Eibach springs, very similar to the H&R but a lot cheaper...

Looks really nice there, have you any problems with rubbing on the arches by going 30mm?

General question to DMP aswel, would I notice a huge improvement from the cupra R suspension which (as far as I know) was fitted to the FR+??

You wouldn't get any rubbing on the arches with a 30mm drop and it'll handle better on the corners then standard LCR suspension.

The LCR is different. Uses different ARB's and bottom arm.

Mine is dropped closer to 50mm and has spacers front and rear. No arch rubbing, excellent ride and its nice and firm through the corners. Its had a 4 wheel laser alignment with full angle and geometry check and its perfect, all in balance and no funny tyre wear.

No never the FR uses the standard Leon/ Mk4 golf setup just with stiffer springs and higher damping.

I would have assumed the FR would have had that but im sure I was told that the FR+ had the same set up as the cupra R.

Has anyone any pics of a 30mm lowerment? 50mm would be noticible but wonder what a 30mm would look like and if you would be able to notice the difference.

I assume there would be some noticable difference in the handling between a 50mm and 30mm drop due to lower centre of gravity but not a huge amount? Just would like to still be able to get out of car parks.
