Bad Vibration

Morning People

Im thought i would pack peoples brains as to whats wrong with my Ibiza before i take it to my dads garage.

Basically i seem to be getting really bad vibration through the whole car. It seems to be under hard acceleration such as motorway slip roads. I would say it starts at the end of 3rd gear through 4th and then worse in 5th around 80-90 mph. I can literary see the steering wheel vibrating

I have has the wheels balanced and they seem fine and the tyres don't seem out of shape or anything.

Im really lost with this. My friend said its quite common on VW's for some part at the end of the driveshafts to break/wear. Not to sure how i can check this though.

That would have been my first though so maybe get them double checked

After that get it up in the air and pull on the wheel while holding the top and bottom see if there is any play in the wheel on the hub

you could try swapping some of your wheels around to check that you don't have a dodgy/buckled wheel. a bad wheel will be much more noticeable if you have it on the front of the car as opposed to the rear. try swapping fronts to back and see if it gets better/worse, should help you narrow it down.

Surely you should be worried about it though. Also it drives me insane

Well i mean it hasnt affected anything driving wise
Gives the wrist a bit of cramp but hey

mine have been vibrating with the crap ripspeed wheels on, but when i switched the back two for cupra ones (i dont have tyres for the other too) the vibration is now almost non existant, if you dont have cupra alloys, maybe a multi fitment wheel have you got spigot rings?? this might be causing the problems.

I had this (at those speeds you mentioned) when they changed all 4 tyres soon after I bought the car. 3 of the 4 alloys are damaged apparently, so they switched them back to the orig positions and balanced them again, all fixed! The drive was absolutely fine after that, no vibrations whatsoever.

I am still using my standard wheels and when i last balanced them i did check to see if the tyres were out of shape or the wheels where buckled but they looked fine.

Im getting a new set of 4 tyres at the end of the month so i will see if that makes any difference.

thinking about this they could be winter tyres they tend to send some vibration through the car when doing about 70mph

i get some small vabration through mine aswell but saying that my tracking is out a bit and tyres are worn down to the minimal tread depth getting em done asap tho so will let you no if i find anything.
couldnt be one of the balancing weights has fallen off that has happend to me before..
get em checked at a garage mate..

Ages ago. I am getting a new set of 4 at the end of the month because they are worn out

oh there might be soemhting with the low tyre wear causing it then maybe its the compund if its gone off or something along thoose lines lol

if it was at certain speeds i'd say wheels/ tyres.

had this on one of my old golfs, cracked a bearing case in the outer shaft knuckle and it popped a bearing into the cv boot, the shaft still worked fine but under load the knuckle twisted and it 'wobbled' the car.

i've got this problem with my leon cupra, vibration under hard accelerarion only.
Was it the drive shaft?
If it was, how much was it to repair?

my thoughs would take me toward either driveshaft or cv joint if its coming through the steering wheel

I have now had four new goodyears put on and it seemed to really reduce the vibration. Its been a few weeks now and it just seems to be as bad as it was before.

Ive checked to make sure all the balance weights are still on the wheels and all seems fine.

I had a look at the drive shafts when it was up on the ramp and there doesnt seem to be any play at all. Will i have to pull the CV boots back to see if there is any problems
