Have you unplugged your throttle body recently?

If you did, did you do a TB alignment afterwards?

Mine died heaps of times after i unplugged mine and forgot to realign the TB

iirc crankshaft sensor is also known as the speed sensor, but you really need to vagcom it, have you put up a post in the vagcom section asking for help?

i see now i know what a crank sensor is but never heard of it refered to as speed sensor.
Still struggling to find someone with vagcom, i have put 2 threads up in that section asking for help.

Also messaged Badger5 (Bill) as he was helpful before when i went down to him

Would the crank/speed sensor be located at the back lefthand side of the gearbox as you look from above?

Could it also be known as an angle sensor via vagcom?

Reason i ask, is that im having a problem, where i have awful idleing and somtimes stalls on itself, im also unable to do a TBA somtimes but everytime i remove the sensor and clean it with IPA it will allow me to do a TBA. 5 mins later back to being broke - clean again and its fine.

Obviously it controls your speedo but does it help control anything else?

I`ve orderd the sensor from Seat and on the invoice it did say speed sensor didnt mention anything about a crank sensor.

Sorry to hijack!

its ok,

The car does idle lumpy some times, normally when HOT tho, perhaps we could be getting somewhere.

Are the sensors expensive?

Its difficult to say what it is, if not impossible without a fault code, doing that narrows it right down.

If this fault only happens when the engine has a chance to warm up it sounds very much like the G28 Engine Speed/ Crankshaft sensor, someone else had the exact same issues, but this came up as a fault code.

You can get a fault code reader off ebay for about £30, ive got one and it always works well.

Lots of good people on here who can help if you provide the fault codes, and will help you get it sorted without the kind of 'change everything till we find it' mechanics method!

i got a cheap OBDII of of ebay and vagcom off the ross tech website but cable cant find interface so been tyring to sort it out with the bloke i bought it from,

I want vagcom and will be buying it once i get the spare cash but dont want to spend it on that until i fix the car, bit of a catch 22 situation:lol:

Do you mean you cant find the obd connection point on the car?

no i know where it is

i plug it in and then test the port as it tells you too but it says,

port status ok
interface not found

whatever that means.

the chap was helpful and said he'd find out and sort it for me or refund me, it was only about £13

Was that with ignition on?

Shame that because they are very handy. The one I have works fine, was more at about £30, ive used it on a golf and my ibiza mk2 no problems. Its an Autel Vagscanner if that helps.

So it showed no faults, im thinking this only happens when warm/hot?

The following sound inanely simple but are very important, and will not give fault codes;

I would check the air filter, make sure its clean. why? - cold air has more volume, any restriction in filter means when engine warms up intake air is warmer and less volume, hence air starvation and overfuelling.

With above, thoroughly check air intake pipe to throttle body.

Also I would definately take out and check the spark plugs as this could tell you what the engine is doing ie overfuelling etc.

If plugs are black, then clean them, replace, and i would advise cleaning the throttle body and running a fuel cleaner through.

make sure in control panel > system > hardware > device manager ...that you have set the usb to the same port as the comm port in vagcom
