Hi All,

First of all the new brakes are an increase from 288mm to 312mm. The calipers and carriers are from an Audi TT and they are pretty much a straight swap.

The calipers and carriers - complete with hoses and pads (all second hand) from www.theTTshop.co.uk for the grand some of £100. I then added some EBC Discs for £72.

The calipers arrived covered in brake dust from where an Audi TT has had it's brakes upgraded. So the start of this was to clean up the calipers and then paint them.

Finished painting.

This was done the other weekend. So this weekend I could make sure they were going to fit ok and install them.

First of all i needed to remove the old Caliper and disc.

The disc retaining screw was a little stuck but a few hits with the impact driver and it came free. Off came the old disc and on with the new one. The size difference is quite noticable!

New disc on the bottom old disc on the top.

The old caliper was still attached so if there were any problems with the new one I could just put the old setup back on.

So with the new disc and caliper in place.

I then test fitted the Wheel to make sure there were no clearance issues.

To say it is close is an understatement!

The difference in the caliper size is huge too!

As everything fitted without any problems it was time to disconnect the old hoses and attach the Audi TT ones - they are slightly longer to allow for the extra mm of disc and caliper.

First off - Disconnect the hose from the clip on the hub.

Then unbolt the hose from the solid brake line.

Replace with the new hose.

Once the other side was done in the same way it was time to bleed the brakes.

Now the brake fluid is located at the top left of the engine.....

So needed to remove the boost hose and some other box of tricks...... (not sure what it is...). You can just see the yellow cap under the strut brace.

With the help of Paul (Cheers matey) We bled the front brakes - Passenger side first and then the drivers side. This worked fine but I was not overly happy with the pedal travel. Since then we have bled all 4 wheels and it is much much better. Started rear left then rear right, front left and front right.

The discs and pads are still beding in but the response is much better already.

Well impressed with these.

Let me know what you think.

ahh... I thought it looked better than most saxo 'brake upgrades' (tin of hammerite) which you can tell have been painted. Yours look like they came like that! Ill have a go when the weather improves, as I think itll look good on a black car.

Are those the 16 or 17 inch wheels you have?

16" mate. They are the 130 sport wheels from 2004. Which is why there is a nats fart of a gap between the caliper and the wheel.

Dead Serious, Some of the nicest cars on here use hammerite or smootherite...Theres nothing wrong with it you just need too do a proper job.., Id:hide:<-- thats for when they find out u said hammerite is chavvy lol

Hahaha classic.... I never said it was chavvy.... I am just a firm believer in using the right products for the job.... I didn't realise Hammerite or what ever could withstand high temperatures that well.

Yeh it says it is high temp paint.

You make it look easy I have to pay someone to do this as I wouldn't be able to do all that mine have been sitting in a box for months to be fitted as I'm not sure if my FR callipers are the right size as I keep getting conflicting answers!

I just phoned them up - worked on the basis that TT drivers would want brake up grades so they much have some old kit....

Fair enough.... for the amount of research i did I am suprised I never found that!

Tis a good guide too..... But as they say you can never have too much information on the subject.

Just ordered mine tonight, just wondering if you used the pads that came with them or upgraded? How much better are they now you've had them on a while?
