My Leon FR is furiously quiet, and I'm kind of annoyed by it!

I would like therefore to replace the exhaust, but I don't want a chavtastic sounding car, just one that sounds a bit grumbly.

Ironically, my FR sounds louder when its in Park, than it does when engaged in Drive, hence my desire to make it that little bit louder.

Any advice would be appreicated, including where I could go to have it done, which company to use, which exhaust system to use, and how much it'll cost me. I'd rather not spend an absolute fortune on the exhaust system, so I suppose a maximum of £350.

Thanks in advance!

could change it to a custom sports backbox, and it should not cost you too much to achieve the sound you want aswell, so idling you want it normal but when you rev it gives you that deep sport sound but just enough to make you smile kinda thing. any custom exhaust garages near you that can make one for you? normally they can design the shape and how it sounds for you. err like janspeeds or longlife (the ones i can think off) could take alook at the miltek exhausts too.

I'd quite like it to make a noise at idle, but I dont want it to just make a noise when I go over 5,000 RPM. I live slap-bang in the centre of London, so my high-speed ventures are limited.

Something that made a noise from 3,000 RPM would be great, but nothing too chavtastic!

there is one local to me and I asked for a backbox (custom made) oval shape not too big and a mid sport sound basically just bit more than what you wanted and he quoted me 150plus vat (hope this gives you an idea what your looking for) also he will give me back my original backbox so when it comes to services I will put everything back on (although thats another subject altogether)

Dan, I have no idea what a 'non-resonated milltek catback' is, aside from something made by Milltek!

its basically the rear half of the exhaust system.

The non resonated means its got no resonator, meaning its louder than the resonted :)

Q. What is a resonator and what's the difference between a resonated and non-resonated exhaust system?
A. A resonator is a chamber in the exhaust system that contains a specific volume of air which is designed to cancel out certain frequencies of sound (made by the engine) - making the exhaust noise quieter.

Therefore, a non-resonated exhaust system will give you extra performance and a louder exhaust note and the resonated system will give you extra performance without increasing the exhaust noise much.

(hope this helps mate) am sure the resonator version is what you wanted. there are youtube videos to help you to decide.

no its not chavvy, a resonated one would be hardly any louder than you have at the moment.

Its around £500.

I may have a resonated milltek centre section for sale next month if you fancy it?

Just go to your local garage that fits exhausts and get them to weld a straight pipe in place of the silencer, no performance gains as such and a bit of a crude way of doing things but cheap (£20) and loud.
