erm... it does'nt work like that.
As said heat expands and will continue to.
If the bolts have stretched then they come out looking a little wasted as they have stretched

Can you get some 12:9 grade bolts for this?

I will speak to Simon at AMD on wednesday when I drop the car off and see what he advises

I didnt think it worked like that either, nice thought though:(

it needs to be fixed first time round, as it cant keep going in with this issue as its costing £££££££££ and it would be nice to actually get the full power out of this car as it was intended for

Bill, I had 12.9 bolts that turned to case-hardened cheese because of the heat. In an old thread, a metalurgist said that at that heat, they didn't stand a chance. I've had A4 stainless in mine for the last year....

Clicky - Bernard?

(I'm sure you know more than me on the subject though. :) )

the heat treatment comment is spot on in that thread.

I use stainless bolts myself on my own beastie, but these are M10 and flanges are different. No special locking anything on mine and not once has anything come undone in the bolt dept.

Is the mounting on the setup posted Oe style bolts dropped in from the top? or a flange with through bolts/nuts?

one question to you all

at P-Torque, the RR results were 272BHP and 250lbft @ 1.1bar

now the map is set to be @ 1.4bar (when I finally get it sorted out)....but from seeing other results of the gt2x (in standard form) they put out around 280-285bhp and similar torque if not a little more

now I would expect mine to put out a little more (due to hybrid treatment), but no way can i see almost an extra 40-50lbft and an extra 20-30bhp being produced from an extra 0.3bar - could you?

mine ran 1.1 for a while, still felt fast but i noticed the extra when it came back. i think it was worth 20-30bhp purely because i felt the difference, much less and i doubt youd notice.
hard to equate it to figures though:shrug:

40lbs/ft is easily achievable from an extra 0.3 bar :)

thanks Will...nice to see you are still keeping an eye on this thread

hard to equate it into figures indeed, and probably in essence difficult to answer really, but was just curious

I have RR results showing 25-30 lb ft difference between 1.35 and 1.5 bar, so yes I think an extra 0.3 bar could achieve that. Peak BHP may be a different kettle of fish though if the turbo is maxed out in flow...

well the car is in the garage at the moment, and its just never straight forward is it!

AMD can tighten up the bolts, but within about a 1000 miles they will come loose again due to stretching of the bolts

basically there is a bracket on all K03/04 turbos which hold them in place, so the turbo is not just left hanging effectively off the manifold and there should have been one from ATP....

I am going on what I have been told here so dont shoot me down if what I am saying is wrong

I have just sent this pic over to them - is the metal part with ATP stamped on it (just below the turbo in the picture) the bracket AMD are looking for?

Nonsense, you don't need a support bracket for the turbo. ATP don't supply one, I haven't got one.

The metal part stamped ATP is the ATP big inlet.

thanks dave, thats what I thought

because it is supported from one side...being bolted to the manifold and then its supported the other end with it being bolted to the DP and not left as "hanging" as I was told

So technically supported both ends....:blink::confused:

they commented on the supplied nuts were just normal and not locking, which again will be another point of failure

car wont be ready till sat now

AMD are having to take the manifold and turbo off, and are getting some bolts made up from a company around the corner

the bolts supplied are not long enough, so the nut is only covering half the thread

they are proper locking nuts, but will not lock until the whole bolt goes through them, as much as you tighten them it's pointless, as they will work loose soon enough

I have just about fecking had it with this car[:@]

so now more expense with taking the kit back off, I am fuming that this was not done properly on the first place or why it was not spotted at first:ban:[:@][:@]
