if you have the same rattle as me you need to...

take the wipers off
remove the scuttle panel

you can now see and feel the alarm beep siren box and how it vibrates against the metal arm of the wiper mechanism!

remove the wiper mechanism (undo two nuts and unplug it)

next cable tie the alarm beep siren box into place so its tight against the padding of the bulkhead

and reassemble everything back, obviously making sure the alarm siren can no longer touch never mind not nock against the wiper motor arms! :D

should take about 1 hour to do.

hope this helps :)

Just used this information to try and cure a rattle in my 04 LCR that sounded like it was coming from the dash and sure enough it cured the rattle and i couldnt be happier ! :funk:

BUT.....

Instead of the alarm box having come loose and forward, touching on the wiper linkage. The box was as far back as it could go. So i thought that can't be the rattle. But after grabbing and trying to wiggle the box to see if it was secure, i found the box was rubbing/squeaking/rattling against the bulkhead as the bulkhead padding is cut out around where the alarm box sits in my LCR.

SO.....

A simple bit of old foam lying around the garrege was used to pad the rear of the box to the bulkhead, i then pushed up against the box trapping the foam in place then securely tightened the 13mm bolt holding it in place.

After two or three long, bumpy roadtests there is no sign of the noise woop woop

Just thought I would post this as i know the more suggestions the better when it comes to finding rattles ( I should know, work on Renaults for a living )

So thanks for the heads up James

a month or so after fixing my rattle I thought the alarm box had come loose again (because the rattle came back ever so slightly) so recently I stuffed foam around it, not really behind it though, and tightened the cable ties I had put in originally, but this did not cure it! :censored:

unfortunately I have been so busy that I haven't had chance or the motivation to try again!

so you say yours was squeeking/rubbing against the rear of the alarm box, against the bulk head?! did you completely remove the alarm unit to see there was no padding in this area on the bulk head?!

When I last had a go I was tempted to remove the box around the alarm siren, but thought that was not a wise idea as it was obviously there for protection (water etc)

maybe its worth me removing the alarm siren and padding behind it then refitting it?!

what you think?!

I just packed the underside of the alarm box with foam in order to stop the rattle / creak..... which has been driving me mental for over a year, ever since a got a replacement windscreen fitted / refitted..

Like everyone else above I thought it was coming from the dash... but after fitting the foam yesterday I am happy to report that the noise is gone complety. WOWHA!! yeah!!

Many thanks to the guys on this post ... that's what SeatCupra.net is all about....

All I need to get rid off is the annoying rattle from the top speaker in the front passanger door, do I need to remove the door card to tighten this?

Cheers

Rob...

You jammy ******* I still have mine to do.
Is the scuttle panel easy to remove?. I know the wipers can be hard etc.. Do you also have to remove the washers/disconnect?. I reckon I can remove it ok but I've heard of people having issues getting it back sealed along the windscreen.

I also have a rattle on the passenger door. I have now found it the window switch. I removed it and it seems someone has broken a bit of the door card in the past so the switch does not sit in tight. That is going to require a bit of a bodge job to fix.

Yeah r6 allan,

It is quite easy to remove the scuttle panel, just take it easy, if you lift it from the bottom edge closest to the engine bay the seal just comes out.

When you go to refit it just line it up and (left to right)then press it in from one edge and work your way along.

Ah.. The joy of driving over bumps and my car not sounding like an old van...lol

Yes mate, After I tightened my alarm box up tight, i pushed it around a bit to see if it was secure and it was rubbing/hitting against the metal of the bulkhead behind the unit. There seems to be no padding behind it on mine

But anyway, after finding a bit of foam and stuffing it behind the box then pushing the box up to hold it in place, the rattle has not re-appeared. I didnt think it would as if you move it by hand when its all apart, it should feel solid and not make any noise.

hope that helps everyone

Got a few nice ones on mine...
1) When it's cold, seems to be behind the dials. When i push down on the dash it stops...but I'm 99% sure it isn't the actually clear plastic cover in front of the dials... any ideas?
2) creak from the top of the passengers side of the dash when hard cornering, cambers in road, bumps etc...thought i'd cured it with a few gallons of WD-40 but its come back with a vengeance
3)numerous other intermittent ones from various locations....most seem to stop after car has wamred up a little bit

any help with the top two would be much appreciated :p
Anyone else got one of those magic stereos like me where the louder it goes the less rattles there are? Witchcraft I'm telling you...

I still have the same rattle just over 2000rpm, and I don't have any alarm installed in my car. Vibration is from centre bulkhead area. what now?

i have been rattle free since buying my car but recently its developed one :( it seems to be coming from behind the drivers side air vent, either inside the vent or something like that?!

I thought it could have been in the fusebox area, so opened that, thinking it couldve been that little plastic pliers thing you get for removing the fuses just knocking around abit. so put some foam padding round it but doesnt seem to have stopped it. i might try the alarm box route when i can next brave the cold.

roads are so terrible round cumbria it really winds me up...

I had exactly the saem problem with the vent, but it was the passenger side one.
After a lot of taking things apart etc it turned out to be a little rivet at the back of the casing of the air vent that holds it to the top of the dashboard...
It was slightly lose and causing it to rattle and creak a little bit, tried padding it but didnt have the room to get anything up inside so went for the WD-40 route.

Give this a go, it's a little hard too get at but if you can get some lubricant on/around it then it might do the trick...

This is what happened to my car:

It had been a bit rattling/creaking ever since new, mostly because the Leon dash is made from very hard plastic and has a lot of voids inside which resonate.

Once I've decided to improve the interior (hated the cheapo plastic, even more since my previous drive had been a 1990 Mercedes-Benz W124 which breathed "upper class" from each corner) things started to move: Dynamat Original/Extreme on the inside of doors, lower dashboard and boot floor (6.8kg added to the car :( ), felt under rear seat and in the boot, sponges in the dashboard voids and eco-leather covering on lower dashboard, centre tunnel, door cards and around the plastic trim on front seats, carpet in the glovebox, closed-cell foam in the engine space on the firewall. Most creaks and rattles vanished, one remained: a rattle/buzz from inside dashboard, just above the pedal assembly, which happened only under strong acceleration between 3000 and 4000rpm. What's worse, it buzzed like a dental drill, which drove me nuts. Weird as it sounds, it happened only when the inside temperature was below 20 degrees Celsius. After months of hunting it throughout the car, had to accept the reality and set the climate control on 22 degrees C. After the interior reaches set temperature, no more buzz...

My alarm siren is set on the firewall in the engine space, strongly fitted by 2 sheetmetal screws, and it's not guilty

I thought I had my rattle fixed ay jamming insulation under the siren box but its came back after 2 days! I cant see anything to cable tie the box to and theres very little room to get anything done where it is located. I can just about fit my hand in there!
