There's no rattle from dashboard when car is cold. After it's getting little warmer and releasing gas when revs are slighly over 2000 there's coming rattle from dashboard, sounds like it's coming from centre of dashboard.
Any ideas where the rattle is coming?
...it's making me mad :censored:

Hello,
Only common well known leon dash rattles I have come across are:
Two metal clips behind dash, that holds it on bulkhead become loose and squeak/creak normally over bumpy roads.
The other, which can sometimes be engine vibration related is the alarm siren, fitted inbetween wiper mechanism and engine e.c.u, moves slightly, and rattles on bulkhead, makes noise sound like its coming from behind dash.
And finally, exhaust heat sheilding under car becomes loose, and vibrates, cure is to push clips on tight again.
Other than that, without hearing the noise, your guess is as good as mine. rattles and noises are a nightmare to pin point and cure.
Trust me, ive been in the trade for 17 years.
Jochen.

yes, yes and YES!!!

this sounds just like mine!!!

I have removed the lower half of the dash below the steering wheel twice in the aid of finding my bloody rattle, but gave up! however the last time I had a go, I noticed a plastic thing connecting to under the scuttle panel was loose (like a drip tray or something) and I thought this was the problem but unfortunately it wasn't and I gave up on it again!

what you have suggested sounds JUST like what it must be!
(I really hope so cos I have had this for 2 years and I sware this suggestion has to be it! lol)

is it simply a case of removing the scuttle panel and wiper arms and simply making sure the alarm siren is secure?!

any advice, tips on how to do this would be VERY much appreciated!!! :)
(for instance is the alarm siren passenger or drivers side? I guess driver's side/middle by the sound of it!
and can i get away with just removing one wiper?!)

thanks,

I had a real bad pain in the arse rattle, and it turned out to be a loose cross member.

The dealer had to remove the dash and it took all day to sort out. Luckily it solved the problem and also seemed to fix a rattle from the glovebox area too.

Trouble is with all my cars rattles now fixed, I then noticed things I haven't heard before. Like rubbish rolling around in the boot or loose change in the door pockets etc.

So maybe just turn the stereo up a bit and 'cure' it that way!

Rattles give a car character anyway.

Hi Jochen,

Thanks VERY much for your help!

today I fixed my rattle that I have had for 2 bloody years!

took me an hour to do.

sure enough the alarm siren was loose and was knocking against the wiper motor arm.

I tried to tighten the nut on the bracket of the alarm siren but it would not budge, even though you could moved the alarm siren forwards and backwards about 3 inches without any effort!

so I pushed the alarm back against the padding on the bulk head and cable tied it into place, it wont move anywhere now! ;)

put it all back together and hey presto no dash rattle!

thank you very much for your help!

over and out!

James :D

It can also be the passenger airbag mounting strap, after removing my glovebox I discovered the strap bolts were loose. Tightened them and silence! ;)

Just got the other wee rattles to sort out lol

if you have the same rattle as me you need to...

take the wipers off
remove the scuttle panel

you can now see and feel the alarm beep siren box and how it vibrates against the metal arm of the wiper mechanism!

remove the wiper mechanism (undo two nuts and unplug it)

next cable tie the alarm beep siren box into place so its tight against the padding of the bulkhead

and reassemble everything back, obviously making sure the alarm siren can no longer touch never mind not nock against the wiper motor arms! :D

should take about 1 hour to do.

hope this helps :)

I'm going to smash mine to bits with a hammer....

What am I saying, I still have warranty. I'm taking mine back in because my passenger door card/speaker is rattling also when playing music. Either that or it's the speaker/clips or something :(
