Hi. Nice job with the restoration. Like someone said, its a shame its not a bit of a rarer car than a 1.0l arosa, but very nice job with the whole thing. I did this to my first car but then ended up selling it a year later.

Just wanted to ask if you could put the torque specs up if you have them.

Torque settings for the head bolts are 22 Ft Lb for the AER engine as it has an aluminium block. The APQ engine has a cast iron block however so I assume the torque settings would be around 50 Ft Lb.

Have had to leave the project for a couple of months due to work commitments etc but got back into it last week and all the mechanicals are back together and up & running. Will post some pics when i get a chance.

Anyway, I took the advice from another member on this thread and didn't strip the head off because of a ticking valve but ran the motor for half an hour with flushing oil, drained it out, replaced oil filter and refilled with an expensive fully synthetic oil- £38 for 5 litres ouch. and guess what? no noisy valve gear! Runs like a sewing machine now. All thats left to do on the mechanical side is to overhaul the brake calipers and I can take her for a test drive round the field. Will keep posting.

Ace :D You didnt by any chance take a look at the tappets did you ? I neet to replace mine at some point and am dreading it. Do you know if they are hydraulic ones ? Have had a fair bit of conflict regarding what type they are.

I only looked at them with the camshaft in place and I believe they are indeed hydraulic. Its not a difficult job though, the engine doesnt have to be removed, niether does the head but your cam belt will need to be replaced. I took a few photos during the cambelt replacement. It was actually easier than I had imagined but then I did it with the engine out.

Cool thanks for that ! At least the engine doesn't need to come out :D The Cam belt was replaced 9k ago which is a pooper but, anything to stop the godawful tapping noise.

What plans have you got next then ?
