The super-stock isn't not equal length anymore, guessing that's why it cheaper now. Aaaaaaanyway ... back on topic.

After hearing about an issue with one of these tubular manifolds blowing gaskets due to engine movement (JBS, Ibiza I think), I've ordered the track density dogbone + street density engine mounts and new bolts from INA - I'm only on stock engine mounts anyway.

Is that serious? lol if it is. Theyre saying 899 Euros on the site as well, wonder how much the T25 flanged RHD mani would be.


The fact that a RHD, standard position manifold, doesnt exist also means i was talking about the T25 mani.


I digress.


That issue was actually on my mates Golf, hes had loads of problems with it, but i think theyre sorted now.

Ah right, got you now. I fancied the mounts anyway, but now is a perfect excuse, especially if I've got the car up on stands I can do the dogbone etc.

you wont be disappointed Rob

I have the SD mounts and SD dogbone mount, and its excellent, hardly any lift and plants the power VERY well

Cool - I've ordered the track density dogbone and street density engine mounts.

Well I managed to get a 12mm spanner bent today, I bought a vise and propane torch, bent the spanner as per the pics I've seen .................. still can't get a spanner in!!!!!!!!!!

I have visions of just leaving this damn ATP manifold on now, last thing to try is a crows foot spanner, that's the flattest, smallest head I can find, if that fails I'll have to leave it on, re-fit everything and have a pro shop swap the manifolds at a later date.

FFS ... the ATP manifold is the WORST design I've ever come across. Who designs a manifold that has zero access for spanners? Should be a 10 min job to remove a manifold.

its not dissimilar to JS IHI manifold......... fitment could have so easily been designed in but was missed.

Anyone any other suggestions as how to remove these nuts? Other issue is that I don't want to try too much and end up rounding them - short of taking an angle grinder to the manifold and cutting it off I can't think of anything else!

I though of cutting them off with a Dremel and replacing the 4 studs with new ones - don't know if I'd get the head of the dremel in there though?

Looks simple enough eh? Nope, normal or small sockets and spanners will not go in there, even if you can get s spanner onto the nut, you can't turn it because something is in the way! I can get a small socket on the left one, but then you can't get the ratchet head onto the socket, even with a flexible joint!

Other thought I had was to dremel a slot into the head of the nut and stud, then use a flathead bit with a spanner on it to get it off? Mind you, be as well to cut the stud and nut in half if I do that!

You can't get a ring spanner head round the nut, no clearance on one side of every nut, has to be open-ended. A straight spanner is no use either.

I was just looking at that Rob, obviously not enough clearance one side, so it looks like a straight spanner would work, but you say it doesn't, how come?:blink:

get a flank drive spanner (halfords professional ones if you have'nt got another tool shop near you)

fiddly, more so when you cant see it as easily as the pictures make it look
JS one is even less clearance

one of the "special" spanners we had to make to fit JS mani, was a cranked ring spanner which we ground down very thin so it would go over the nut.

just a thought

I think I managed to get at those with a v small socket set, with a UJ on it - same as jonah's ATP that was.

nice bodge by star cutting a section off that bolt...
