which means for the same initial valve lift the flow can start around the whole head of the intake valves/ex valves so flow is increased. 5v in a small combustion chamber makes for some crowding of the cyl walls

I see. Bill has mentioned deshrouding the valves in the past.

Just another thing. What are people's thoughts on compression ratios. Is it a good idea to stick with the standard ratio or go lower. Whats the science behind this one?

He's at 1.5 bar now i cant see the turbo doing much more reliably. When i was asking jbs about comp ratios they wouldnt tell me what they use ( very cloak and dagger ) but the number i seen thrown around is 8:5:1 (?) , whats that all about ??

what boost do you want to run!?

I'm junking the VF34 and replacing it with a 16 or 18G from Blouch. I'm guessing I'll be running something like 1.5bar with it.

I've just read on a few forums that the standard compression is recommended for a street car with a medium sized turbo. Lower compression is more for very high boost and lowers volumetric efficiency. Net result is a drop in low end torque and later spool. Mine is used on the street and some drag runs so I want to keep the low end torque. A nice flat torque curve etc.

I'm thinking an overbore with standard compression is the way to go for me now.

Thoughts?

I thought you had a JBS kit HTC? This uses the 16G turbo anyway. You going to try it on the same map and alter with custom settings.

My turbo is a vf34 from jabbasport. I have the JBS kit otherwise. The wastegate control is all over the shop and it's whistling louder each day. Busted me thinks.

I can't use custom settings as mine is a DBW old style ECU so no diag port access. Would have to be another map. I'm going to rebuild the engine anyway and I'm priceing all the parts at the moment, mostly from the USA. With the extra strength, might as well go a little bigger on power with a reliable turbo with the same fitment as my kit. Hopefully wilko can help with info about clocking the compressor and remounting the actuator.

Is the TD05 the same fittment as the vf34 and able to flow around 40 bhp more ( laggier tho )

td05 refers to the turbine wheel, and you would want the td05h as it's bigger.
As for flow depends what compressor wheel you use with the td05h, 16g,16g6,18g,20g.
Standard 16g is similar size to vf34,16g6/18g bigger,20g even bigger(imo to big for the exhaust housing). On similar boost 18g/16g6 should see 20-30bhp more than a vf34.

Just an awesome thread on explaing things..

So basically could I k04 or ihi my ibiza cupra with 137k miles on the engine...But do the genral maintance like cambelt,water/oil pump ect?
What miles is everyones 20v running on Bt?

Sorry to thread high jack

thanks

It has helped so far in knowing what i will need to rebuild my engine,

don't worry about hijacking although thanks for apologising it's a first!

These threads tend to go all over the place, but ultimately it's all good info.....usually :)

Just made a list of parts for mine.

Scat connecting rods - 144mm length 20mm gudeon pin
OEM head bolts - 10mm for 06A engines
Supertech intake valves - black nitrided (set of 12) (haven't decided whether I need these yet)
Supertech exhaust valves - inconel (set of 8)
Supertech valve spring and retainer kit
Supertech valve guides - set of 20 (just in case I need them, ebay them if not)
OEM oil pump - for 06A engine
Head gasket set - up to 82mm bore
Supertech pistons + rings - 82mm bore standard compression ratio (should equate to 1825cc)
Blouch turbocharger - TD05-18G
USRT Genesis Injectors (in case my 485cc @ 4bar won't cope)
Bosch 044 fuel pump

Comes to about £1800 from various sources. Majority from qedpower.com, but also from usrallyteam.com and blouchturbo.com.

Add £500 for those things you always forget.

Yeah, could do I suppose 83mm would give 1870cc. Will do some reading on bore sizes. Didn't want to go too far. I would like some extra continency just in case I needed a rebore to fix a problem further down the line.

I'm sure you'll be doing it and have just missed this out as its not important but...
Will you be changing the chain, sprocket and tensioner when you change the oil pump?
Are you doing any of this work yourself??
Do you know the timing belt, pulley and crank casing needs to come off to do a proper change on the oil pump, its a big job!!

HTC what makes you think blouch is turbo supplier of choice? I'd consider FP mate, bill is a dealer.
