At uni studying motorsport engineering. Which is quite enjoyable anyway so its not a chore to be at uni.

I'm doing automotive at the mo, just finished first year and to be honest it was pretty pretty tough. Thinking of changing to motorsport for next year. Is it more hands on and less maths based can you tell me?

(wierd post for this thread i know :p)

Id say automotive and motorsport will involve the same amount of maths, if you want hands on youv'e got to be looking at doing a btec or hnd or similar.

So if you own a 1.4 just dont drive a high power car and then you won't have something to compare it too ;)

Ha! I now realise exactly how slow our 1.4 ibiza's really are after driving a lambo gallardo. Top speed just short of 200mph, 0-60 about 3 or 4 seconds, 500 + bhp!
Makes my car seem like a bloody pedal bike now :(
What's our 1.4s... 60bhp, top speed 100 and somethin if we're lucky? 0-60.... a few days? lol.

well, i wouldn't say 'cheap' lol. not for me anyway after writtin car off and making some claims. ha :ban: is frustrating though, coz that was nearly two years ago now, yet insurance companies still want to rape me up the ars coz only 19.

im pretty sure ive done over 110mph (on a private road), and i think my mate timed me doing a 0-60 for a laugh using the speedo and a phone and it was around 12...something...

I know someone who did about 110 in his car (a 9N polo 1.9D, about 17s to 60!) so can be done, espec if on a slight hill with wind behind you.

stated 0-60 times are usually a bit mean lol, I think ours could be about 13/13.5s standard, maybe improved slightly with decent induction kit/exhaust but basically about that. Not fast, but tbf not horrific either, especially for those of us who have this as our 1st car.

clocks aren't accurate

mines had 116 on clock (private road)

also, other week me and sparky did a test. I knew that 70 on clock is 64 on sat nav (same wi mk4s). Also got it up to 100 on clock which is 90 on sat nav

so when you get 116 on the clock. that will be about 105 that the book says you can reach.

Thought I'd give a wee update, my exam went well. Somehow managed to write 8 pages answering 1 question lol and needed another answer booklet.

So that's me off for the summer, an typically its now raining![:@] But at least I will hopefully have more time to spend on the car.

Still havn't got the bottom of the front bumper done, so currently driving round without it, the car looks like its sitting really high lol.

As for our 1.4s being slow, well yes they are, although I've never pushed it boyond 90mph cos round here there are no roads long enough to do that lol. Plus I'm not really a speed demon anyway

I took mine to Scotland for a day trip a few weeks ago, with 4 other people in it, and I was actually quite suprised by the performance, it was nowhere near as bad as I expected.

Yeah, apparently that's why everyone says police allow you a certain percent 'over' the speed limit, it's not, it's just the systems they use with the guns are a lot more accurate than our speedos, and speedos are no wer near as accurate as their speed guns.

Try it out... find your nearest sign, usually in a little village, which tells u ur speed and then gives u a smile face or angry face if ur going under or over 30mph... obviously the sign always smiles at me :) is a good little game to kill time if your bored! which being a student, i always am! lol

I just bought some 40mm lowering springs.... but.... i can't get my wheels off at all, completely stuck on, had two of us puttin loads of force into it and still wouldn't move!!!
Think when garage put new tyres on they must have used pneumatic drill or something? Anyone know if i can fit the springs without taking wheels off? Or know of any cheap electric tool i can buy to get the bolts out???
