there is a petrol garage around the corner from my fiance's house and the diesel price is £1.39 a litre, normal petrol is £1.30...:-o:-o:-o

its just getting silly now. im not on the best of wages (get £14k) a year and im finding it hard to run a car now.. i dread to think what its like for people worse off than myself!

Back from the dead
My car is currently costing 28p a mile on average to run in fuel. Work pay 40p mileage which used to be generous. If you take into account mileage / depreciation etc, its no longer any kind of benefit at all. Soon companies will have to think about revising this cost as its no longer effective.

some may say lala land....
been keeping my receipts for a while, based on a thread nathanio mentioned he'd done a spreadsheet thing, (which lost but need back please), i have found it has gone up on average 1.1pence a week since March.
I've spent on average £60 a week since and the tank has gone up £5.
still getting 530 to 550 a tank so not all bad but that is 7days travelling.
trying to tell work, i shan't be coming in soon as no money to fill tank to get in and nobody within 10miles of me to even car share with and bus is a big no no, and cycling would be even worse.
do 60mile round trip for work, oh the joys of needing food and water...

you did one on a spreadsheet where you were working out real mpg of your driving against cost of filling a tank.
saw a screendump in the Real MPG thread, but looked and couldn't see the maths in cells info.
should have saved in but didn't, and wanted to start to do since the price increases

i used to run on fuel expenses, anywhere between 500 and 1000 miles per week

i kept a little notebook in the glovebox from the day i picked the car up and noted every penny i ever spent on it inc fuel.

was a simple chart

Date Miles done Miles remaining Av MPG Av Speed odometer reading litres cost

over 3 years it was easy to build up a working cost per mile Vs expenses, unfortunately i left the book in the glovebox for it's next owner:( how nice of me!!
