Cupra Diesel Any Good?

I am actually thinking of a Diesel Cupra 160 Ibiza to replace my nameless car. I'm sure it's all been asked before but I wonder what miles per gallon people are getting. I'm a fairly ordinary driver. I love to accelerate but don't go much over the limit so I would hope to get 45/50 on my drive to work.

How is it for longer journies. I hear they are very harsh riding and can be quite noisy.

Finally is the radio OK. I'm not looking 12 speaker surround sound but my father has a new shape Octavia which is a great car with leather etc. Luxury and good value. However the rdaio is completely useless! I couldn't cope with that and don't like (or have the money for) after market speakers

I used to have one. You should be able to get 40-50 mpg out of it no problem unless you drive like a nutter all the time, but even then it will be quite economical. The acceleration is pretty good 30-70 sort of speeds are quite fun and overtaking is a breeze. They can be a little noisy and a bit harsh depending on the types of roads. Best to go for a test drive really and see what you think.

The stereo is ok..the newer ones have MP3 compatibility but it's quite easy to change to an aftermarket one. OEM speakers are quite reasonable actually.

That's what I'm looking for. Fun but also 50 mpg. A difficult combination.

The only other thing I've just thought about is it must be soon due for a replacment as the new Fabia (same platform) has been out for nearly a year.

iirc There are very few unregistered Cupras left now as the model has been discontinued.

If you look on the SEAT website it is not even listed anymore, so if you are looking for new get your skates on!

PS, My TDI Cupra gets 50+ easily driving 20 miles across country to and from work.

I get 50ish mpg on motorway driving - the car is quite noisy when starting up but give it time to warm up and the noise quietens after 10mins of driving. Also when the engine is warm it loosens up and feels great to drive. If taking a test drive take a long one so you can get a good feel of the car . Dont listen to the petrol geeks! all they talk about is revs!

Yes I do love diesel (and turbo petrol!). I had a Fabia Vrs which is a cousin who's eaten a few pies and it was great especailly the thrill of torque plus 50 mpg. Glad the Cupra is almost as economical as the Vrs. Leon TFSI has to go but I don't want the fun to go as well!

Yeah I think they're awesome, but I'm a little biased

I get around 45mpg on the motorway, my old 130 used to get 55mpg.

Get a remap and your MPG will increase slightly too

I meant a proper ramap j/k Maybe it's just the petrols that increase the MPG then (we need it)

No diesels do increase MPG with remap too.

Had my 130 remapped and the next day got an AVERAGE of 61.6mpg on a 50ish mile run!

I think you will find that the fuel computer goes wonky with a remap and gives optimistic readings

BTW they are optimistic anyway if you do the sums

Whats wrong with Revo? Its been on my car for over 3 years, the clutch still doesn't slip, its very smooth and I can turn it off when I want.

Just bought one few weeks ago (with massive discount). Really like it, coupla things could be better: the A pillar is very wide so visibility to right compromised. Not healthy for entering roundabouts and it makes placing the o/s front wheel difficult on spirited drive. Braking cuts the fuel so if you left foot brake you'll need to adjust your technique.

Big hole in power at very low revs (noticably in 2nd) but think the ECU upgrade will eradicate that. The Pirelli tyres it came with are crap...looking forwards to getting my fav Falken ZE12s on!

Interior is "cosy" and stereo is totally fine. Overall lovely car and looking forward to our trip around europe 9taking in Nurburgring) in her.

Plenty of "wannabe" Cupra owners on here may have much to say but take it from me......Buy one!

I completely agree with all of the above, 9 months of ownership have made me forget about some things. The remap does help the drought under 2k, but it'll spin the wheels a lot if you're heavy on the power. I've found feeding the power in keeps the TCS light off and saves the clutch.

Big hole in power at very low revs (noticably in 2nd) but think the ECU upgrade will eradicate that.

I found taking of the EGR sorted that problem out. Much smoother bottom end now. Might be worth a look. only takes a few minutes to do.

I usually change my cars every two years, and considering ive nearly had this one 4 years kinda sums it all up for me. I love it, and it still keeps me amused on the trip to work.

10/10 from me.
