I've had search on the EGR valve thing...there's so much out there it gets confusing so does a fellow Cupra TDi owner have a definitive answer on the subject?

Sorry if this is diferring from the original subject but bear with me as it's really got my interest as one of the negative point we all agreesd on earlier!

Finally, if anyone's been to Performance Torque for the ECU remap....how happy are you with them and the results>

Again, apologies for another hijack but hopefully replies will benefit the original "postee" too!!

No definitive answer on the EGR, just I believe my car is infinately smoother now. Feels like a new car. if you give the pipe a wiggle from side to side at 80degree angles it will come of nicely. Plug it up and have a drive. If you dont like it, just reconect.

Will maybe try that when warmer, making sure get the right pipe of course! (not even been under the bonnet yet!)

Litterally takes 5 minutes to do mate. The hard part is finding a golf tee or something similar.

Would be nice to find out if someone else reckons their car is smoother too.

Well worth a go. It will bring up a warning light on the dash though. But I can live with that.

To be fair in the video it looks as if it came down to driver ability. Bad driver in the 197. The cupra is no slouch at all. But I think it may have been closer had the drivers been evenly matched. Would have liked to see the launches. :)

Off the line the Cupra would have the advantage assuming both drivers equal and the Cupra could get the power down. The 197 would pass the Cupra as shortly after it was put into 2nd.

I don't think there'd be a big difference until higher speeds when I'd expect the better-breathing 16v engine of the Clio to enable it to pull ahead slightly.

Not like it matters :)

The Cupra is a fast car for such a small hatchback.

Trouble is most petrol cars will just out REV the Cupra. Going with a 1.8T Golf i am fine till I change gear, he will pull a bit when i change becasue he is still reving. only down side with the TDI, short rev range and the power dies at about 4.5K

Did mine a few days ago, it feels smoother, like the power is more progressive and not all delivered in a lump, feels like it pulls better too, might all be in my head though!

Oh just to go back to the original question (sorry guys) i found the cupra suspension to hard to live with it rattle my fillings out but i do live in northants and the roads a really crappy. so went for the fr130 instead. Stuck on my PD2 box an it copes with the extra grunt just fine. Ok it dont handle quite so good but i have to live with this thing every day in the traffic, a good compromise for me.
My trip comp is also very optamistic at times, it seems to get worse the harder i drive it which sugests the more the PD2 box does the more inacurate it gets.
The other bonus is group 8 insurance and the fact that its a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing, it takes the muttleys by suprise

as for the EGR i did this to my old cordoba tdi90 tuned to 130 years ago, gives a much cleaner burn 1500 to 2000 and helps get rid of the pre turbo flat spot , i think the control can sometimes get mixed up a bit if your on an off the throttle and then floor it takes a sec to sort itself out, much better off. have not done the Bezzza yet but will do. oh an the best bit is all that SOOT flys out the back as you boot it dusting the turkey you are leaving behyind  just in case he did not know he was bein blown away by derv lmfao. [B)]
My baby bein dynoed on sat cant wait. ( lol i went on a bit .)

I found the same thing with the cupra suspension (way too hard), and it was the one thing that made me go for an fr too

glad I did in some ways but wish I had the cupra seats and brakes

YEAH!! had my beast for 2 years this new years eve and nothing but fun driving. Yep had our problems mostly dodgy heater and loose trim. rattles the teeth a bit on our crap essex roads but love the fact NO-ONE seems to know what the car is!!!! All they see is an ibiza then my exhaust as i leave them is the distance. Agree pirelli tyres are naff but I am only getting 35mpg!!! doesn't matter how i drive it is getting worse. Oh HUM!! Car is too small for a family my kids won't get in the back anymore and my wife won't get in at all!! I was looking at a Diesel FR but bought the Cupra at 2 years old. I do miss heated mirrors/seats and screen though must be getting old.:):):):)

surely swapping a big Octavia VRs for a smaller Ibiza, and gaining 30 horses, the Ibiza is going to be quicker when needed, and also more economical?

after all its the same engine isn't it? just different ECU and gear ratios and what not. (not a tech!)

I have the 130 TDI FR, whilst my dad has the 130 TDI Bora ST - Same engine, gearbox, etc, but mine is so much quicker. Can't really comment on economy as I drive mine enthusiastically whilst he drives his like a Bora owner. lol
but i'd have thought the same engine pulling a lighter car could only be more economical if driven the same.

I found taking of the EGR sorted that problem out. Much smoother bottom end now. Might be worth a look. only takes a few minutes to do.

I usually change my cars every two years, and considering ive nearly had this one 4 years kinda sums it all up for me. I love it, and it still keeps me amused on the trip to work.

10/10 from me.

Sorry to bring up and old thread, but this quote by Dift. i have noticed the lag in second sometimes when going on to aroundabout. so whats the EGR, i assume Exhaust gas recirculating, what does it do and where is it, ????

Not sure if reply is to late, Yep EXhaust gas Recirculation! It lives behind the engine at the top, just under the cover of engine, has a vacume control valve and a flappy black plastic pivot thing on it, it has the 90 degree rubber bend going to it.

Remove it!
