17000 miles they probably wont have even worn in yet. Look ok to me... If your rides nice and smooth, no banging etc i think your fine

I'm glad you asked this question, I was about to ask the same thing when I got round to taking a picture. I've had my LCR from new and it's now 3.5 years old with 30K on the clock, over the years the gap has opened concidrably, from a 2 or 3 mm too about 1cm.

So any one else have a view on whether JamesL's large gaps or my growing gaps are OK, or does something need replacing?

lol ^^. No I havent got any banging or anything like that (but I have got a fair amount of padding on my bonnet!) but I remember on my mk3 golf one of the mounts looked like that just before it went, and then when it was replaced it sat flush. I was just concerned because of the gap tbh! thanks for the replies

I'm looking into mine just now aswell
Mine move very easily and suspecting that mine have gone too
My cars done 77,000 miles so more chance of mine needing changed, I'd be conserned if mine was sticking up that much

junior senior, I havent checked if mine have a lot of play yet or not but I'll be a bit concerned if they have after only 17000 (admittedly also 6 years, but still)

Rubber ages.

Whether or not a rubber component needs replacing depends on how much flexing/compressing it's endured (mileage related) and simply and purely how old it is.

so would you say they are ok or not in that case then?! they seem to be fine but if they're not then I'd mention it to the garage as I said

I'll have to email him the pics - he's a 150 mile round trip from me so dont much fancy that for him to say yeah they're fine. I'll ask him for an email address and see what he says. He seems to be a top bloke, has been nothing but helpful - was going to hand deliver my engine cover for me, on his day off! and he lives at least another 20miles or so in the opposite direction from me - so nigh on a 200mile round trip.

there is no worry at all about the top mounts not sitting evenly when looking at them from the engine bay!

they move all the time... pop open the bonnet and get someone to turn your car on and move the steering wheel from full lock to full lock and you will see the car moves and the top mounts move too!

so no worries they look fine to me! :)

So if you can physically shake the whole assembly by hand in all directions would this be a reason for needing to change them??
