Hi.
That colour looks very much like Platinum Grey. My Altea XL is that colour, and personally I think it is one of the best colours although I do believe that it is discontinued now. The paint code is LS7U and should be printed on a sticky data label on the inside cover of the service book.
Xlray
Bottom line regardless of what colour it turns out to be, we still need to be happy with the whole package so I may still have a word with the dealer regarding exchange and see what options we have. Can't say I'll be too happy having body repairs/paint job done on a 3/4 month old car to be honest...
Well its only as you know about it. but you would shocked at how many cars arrive at the docks, get delivered to the dealer and have to go to the paintshop for repairs. I only know so much about the docks as most of my mates have worked at the local ones. Also explains why we all have so many Audi and Merc pens and keyrings etc. I remember one mate, used to nick the spare alloy wheels off of certain cars and then sell full sets.
Hmmm....not sure about the Platinum grey - in certain lights ours actually looks darker...
Suppose the only way to 'put this to bed' will be to get the paint code as suggested and get down Halfords this weekend. Unfortunately haven't managed it this week as its been a bit dark and wet in evenings...
In any event, after a long chat with the missus last night we've decided to keep the car and get it repaired (as rightly agreed FOC by dealer) and see how it comes back after that. She thinks I'm being a bit fussy about the colour and she's happy with it regardless of which 'grey' colour it turns out to be...
Just to prove my wife right about being fussy, I've since noticed an annoying vibration/rattle (only on rougher roads) which I think is coming from the centre air vents.
We also have the 'owl' type noise in low revs (more noticable in stop/start traffic) that I've seen mentioned in other posts from owners of TDI models....Has anybody else getting this had it rectified by dealers and if so what was the cause ?...just so I can ask them to investigate when its in for body repair and sound like I know what I'm talking about...
We should still be within the 30 day period after repairs hopefully so if we're (or should that read I'm..) not happy with the car after this, we should still have the exchange option..
Thanks for the info' POLKR.
Sounds like our 'owl' noise is more like your wife's car, slight and only really noticable between 1000-2000 revs when accelerating/decelerating in traffic at lower speeds. I've not noticed it at motorway speeds (maybe as there's more wind/road noise anyway..) but will keep an ear out for it in future..
If it doesn't get any louder its something we can live with...
It worries me though that yours was worse after a remap (something I was thinking of doing at a later date - ), especially if it was bad enough for you to want to get rid...
While we're on the subject, which model did you have and what was the difference in performance after a remap..? 'Owl' noise aside, was it worth remapping and what was the cost..? Also did the tuner 'demap' for dealer warranty repair and 'remap' afterwards FOC..?
Sounds like a remap is worth trying then at some stage POLKR, as your opinion confirms most other posts I've read on here tbh...
Actually, we were a gnats gonad away from going for the FR TFSI DSG model instead of the TDI 140, especially after an awesome test drive in one, as we only do about 8k per year of mostly short work commutes (which the dealer said ruled out the FR TDI 170 for DPF reasons..).
In the end, mpg figures (and being the wrong side of 40.) came into it, plus the option of remapping to match the 170 swung things in favour of the Stylance.
Anyway, just to get my head round this, is a remap simply a software change to the ECU that a tuner achieves with special software, or does it include fitting of additional parts (other than the optional on/off switch you mention POLKR)..
Maybe any other TDI/Revo upgraders out there can confirm if they have had problems with excessive 'owl' noise after remapping...
Apologies as I appear to have gone a bit 'off thread' here...
Remapping is software only which is invisible to dealers unless they drive the car. I havn't driven the tdi dsg but I did drive the FR dsg before buying the manual cupra. If I were you I would change it for the FR dsg for the sake of 8k miles a year. The petrol dsg was awsome when I drove it and I much prefer the petrol Tfsi to the tdi but then thats just my opinion. The only two negatives with the FR dsg are 1. The fuel but 8k /yr is nothing and 2. The FR suspension is MUCH harder than the stylance which is very comfortable.
The tdi will remap to 185 bhp but the FR petrol Tfsi will remap to 260bhp!! Another thing..dunno if your stylance has bluetooth in it. The system is a godsend and if you were to get the FR get one with this.
Horses for courses though.
Thanks for the advice Beezer - did my wife send you a PM asking you to say that...?..
