My Cordoba Coupe Trackday Car Project

Got convinced into making the lid out of GRP (fibreglass) and adding abit more room above the trumpets

First real attempt of doing any thing out of GRP and its suprising easy to get good results, put 3 layers on (~3mm thk) which gives a bit of margine to fettle/smooth out the rough bits.

Yeah, i'm a composites man now myself! if in doubt, make it outta composites.

you could easily use the metal part as a patern from which to make a mould, in which to produce fibreglass parts you know!

(also, watch out for engine born vibrations, there is probably 50g or more of vibration on the intake manifold face, and with 3kg of airbox hanging 50cm out front you might find that it simply cracks up your manifold and TB's at high rpm!)

I was thinking that - use the metal fab to make a mould but, purely out of interest, would you make it up with the smooth face inside (for airflow) or outside (for asthetics)?

Good point about vibration...

Yep and I'm sweet enough lol;)

Weighed the lid on its own and that came to 800g:blink:

My intention was to always make another one from a different (lighter) material, used steel sheet as its was cheap and somthing I could work very easiliy considered composites for the 'tray' but with the limited back and forth movement and vibration it would crack in no time as it would need to flex as it is it will be supported at the grill end to distribute the weight

Got the 'tray' back from the powdercoaters today and finished painting the lid.

Used 10mm door/window self-adhesive rubber strip for the seal around the lid from B&Q, I was too fickle to resist slapping on the Seat Sport decal, looks the part tho:redface:
