green panel filter fitting

just bought a used green panel filter which i'll clean prior to fitting.

do i need to disconnect the maf hose prior to fitting or does the lid of the airbox come off without having to touch this?

if there is any crap in the airbox is it safe enough to give it a quick hoover?

The lid of the airbox just pulls up enough to get the filter in without disconnecting the MAF. I cant see any problems with giving it a vac. Make sure you re-oil the filter though after cleaning it.

I might be wrong but aint it the oil that screws up the MAF

I think thats right DK, thats why the K&N ones aren't really up to the job. They rely on oil to catch the dust.

I cleaned my green one and didn't oil it exactly for that reason. I am sure they are ok to run dry.

Green filters ARE oiled from the factory, and you would be better oiling it before it goes in just give it a LIGHT ! ! coating,

can you use K&N cleaning solution and oil on the green filter??? having seen both they seem to differ only in colour (the oil/solution i mean)

I can buy the K&N locally but i'd have to order the green oil/solution.

I'm just following the manufacturers instructions. i would of thought they'd know the best way to treat the filters

obviously dont lard it up with oil. It states to spray a small amount on after cleaning.

Had mine 2 years, cleaned it four times and had no maf problems.

My Green is foam, arent K&N's not paper filters usually? Therefore different cleaner and oil needed?

No probs on either of my Seats using K&N's ..... just oil lightly

Err in a word NO. . . . K+N's and green filters are esentialy the same thing cotton gause medium in between two layers of metal mesh pleates.

i undid the screws but the lid only pops up at the side with the screws and even then only a little, i tried to prise out the old filter but it's a struggle.

should the lid pop up at both the side with the clips and the side with the screws?

I might end up unscrewing the maf tube bit. hoped to avoid this though.

Once you have undone the screws, you should be able to pop it off the clips on the other side too. The whole airbox lid should move away on the Inlet Pipe enough for you to get the filter out.

got it. was just worried incase i broke it but with a little persuasion it unclipped.
