Temp Sensor

Fitted new temp sensor last week due to engine management light coming on & showing it as a fault. Since then the light has stayed off but the car has not seemed to get up to 90 degrees when running & today the warning light started flashing & beeping when i started car. Drove for about 4 miles then switched engine off & back on & light went out. Could the sensor be faulty?

Different sensor for the temp gauge, AND the three beeps is the coolant level sensor in the header tank.

It's very common, a search will pull up lots.

did the engine management light come on this time or just the red flashing light?

if so it may be the coolent level sensor in the coolent bottle. check the coolent level and top up if required. also open the bottle and clean the two prongs by scraping with a flat head screwdriver. This happened to me a few weeks back, i did the above and the flashing red light and beeps have gone. my car was sitting steady on 90 though.

worth a try. if you have a fault reader or vag-com then check for a fault code just to be sure.

after i cleaned the prongs i checked and no faults were logged.

just poor quality seat parts. not worth wasting money replacing the bottle etc. if the temp is fine. not sure if this helps but i'm sure someone will come along that knows the answer for you.

As Feel has said 2 totally different faults.

The temp sensor has NO CONNECTION to the 3 beeps and light on the gauge

Quick question

My temp some times drop from 90 to 85 or 80.
some hard accelration it goes back to 90. No faults at all. Is this temp related? only does it on motoway or steady high sppeds

all the leons ive driven or been in stay at a steady 90 degrees and hardly move from this at all once it has reached this temp.

Thanks for the advice all.

Before i replaced the temp sensor the temp quickly went to 90 degrees & stayed there but since i replaced it it now doesnt reach 90 degrees. The engine management light has not come back on but i got the temp gauge light on when i started up today. it just flashed & beeped constantly until i stopped & restarted the engine after my journey. It has not happened again since. Checked level & thats ok. Just wondered if anyone else had a similar problem. Mate who works on VW's says it may be a problem with the sensor..... but is this likely?

Its the sensor in the water bottle, try scraping it with flat blade screw driver, if that dosnt help, you may have to change the water bottle as the sensor is apart of it.

I got this for the first time ever, this morning too:)

Must be something in the air!!!

It was below or around freezing for about 24 hours where I am - massive layer of frost on the car this morning. Think the coolant must have contracted below the level of the sensor. Just waited till the temp gauge got to 90 and then cycled the power - that sorted it.

I had previously read a thread on here regarding this problem, so wasn't too concerned. If it keeps happening I'll take it to a specialist over Xmas.

That didn't work for me, even left it to tick over for a few mins and it came back.

Get the car moving, this usually means it wont come back on.
the lever drops a little when cold. (not so far that the alarm should come on though). When you are on the move the level moves around a bit and helps.

I find if i start car and leave it at tickover the alarm will come on almost everytime. If i drive off it rarely does. It may well be that when moving the coolant gets on the parts of the sensors prongs that are not in the coolant overnight and therefore has less build up on them.

Yeah, as I said in an earlier post, it was fine once I was on the move.

I had my light come on took it to a tech friend of mine at audi who diagnosed it to be the temp sensor. He said it wasn't a big deal to replace and the light has not come back on. Car is absolutely fine, should i even bother?

It happened to my car for two years. seat stated that its a faulty sensor, they didnt bother to change it. i reckon that its in the coolant. where aboputs are the ntwo prongs ill have a go. be nice not to hear that beep atlast.
