Know that bit of rod very well, it's very bad for standing water in heavy rain, not enough camber in the road for the water to run off. There are also some bad groves where the trucks have worn/pressed down the surface a bit.

Glad you are OK, car can be fixed and as otehrs have said you cant.

Also on the way to work this morning i seen the aftermath of the crash at Garrion Bridge (just 2 junctions down), leon-sized car on it's roof with no glass left at all - no idea what type of car it was though .... they closed the rood just after i got passed :(

How do you know if it was needed?

seconded.... if you didn't make the 'right' kind of impact the airbags won't fire - after all, you don't want an airbag going off unneccercerrly.

Unlikely that you were watching the TCS light when spinning too :) but we'll gloss over that one

In standing water you're a passenger no matter what - so don't worry about blaming anything.. (apart from the PI springs :D)

always SOMEONE who tries to be smart and turn every thread into an argument eh.....(no fingers pointed.....pretty obvious)

Would at least imagine it would not happen in a thread as serious as this one

Don't expect to post on this forum, without people being allowed to put across the otherside of an argument.

Its for discussion, not for rubbing peoples bruised pride.

But surely to batter f##k out of the side of the car and the curtian side air bag doesn't go off then this is not doing as designed to:-o:confused:
Surely thats the same as a full head on collision and the Steering wheel air bag not going off[:@]

Junior Senior have you ever read the manual for the air bags?

If you have then you should know that if the accident doesn't put enough pressure in the right spot the air bag wil not deploy and the spots for deployment are usually where they test the car eg : - side impact, head on impact. This does not sound like a full head on or side impact so no deployment sorry...

if you hit a tree with the middle of front bumber chances are that the air bag will not deploy

it's all about the g-forces involved

and if they're not present, they don't fire - pretty obvious really

what you don't want is an airbag firing when you don't want it to & snapping your neck.

I would thats for sure, I don't know alot about it but thought that this was for SIP to stop your head hitting the pillar

Gutted for you fella. Pleased to hear you are OK though!
Did you hit your head on the pillar? or was whiplash your only injury?

To take the positives from this awful experience is that Leon is a very well made/strong car and that you are not seriously hurt!

We all live and learn! When its bad weather doing 65-70 joining a slip road is not a good idea. If its raining heavily i always cut my speed.

Well ive been driving 3 years now and never had even the slightest incident until now

Police were parked on the other side of the motorway (it was cruise night in Hamilton so Police was everywhere) and they saw it all, and they did not say anything at all about me driving too fast or anything

All they said was that the road in question is notorious for similar incidents, and that something needs to be done to make it better

Cars going in to a bodyshop tomorrow for a repair estimate - if its not too bad, then I may just go ahead and get it done outwith the insurance - because last thing i want is to pay a high excess and then be bumped with my premium at renewal - im only 22 mind

However i think it will be too big a job for me to go outwith insurance - as one of my mates who deals with salvage cars had a look and reckons it will cost around 3 or 4 grand to fix it up - OUCH!

Agreed - it was kind of at an angle, but i was thrown against the side of the car with a bit of force - which caused the main injury i suffered (badly bruised shoulder) - so we could perhaps question the deployment in this particular incident

And you dont want it to fire too early also, if not tottaly necessary as it might be needed seconds later ie if another car then smashes into you once you have come to a stop for example ;)

Sadly they don't just crash Cupras around Glasgow. My brother's similar yellow one was torched last week - window smashed and interior set alight.[:@]
The front is ok though so unusually there should be some front parts from a written off Cupra.

So that's two fewer Ovni Cupras on the roads around there now.:(
