What do you find crazy? Have you never been up against anything on the road?

I find some of the claims crazy! Course i've been up against tones of cars on and off the road!
I know for a FACT that a LC is no match for a CTR
and that a CTR is going to have a LCR, JUST!
and that this guy with the Derv Leon is NO WAY having mapped LCRs!
thats what i find crazy, not the fact that people have a go, just there claims!

lol my mapped LC Tdi could just about keep pace with Karlos' LCR - he was pulling away in every gear but not that much of a gap, once remapped - utterly pointless :)

lol - Yep - I agree about those claims... I certainly don't believe some of them.

Not a red CTR mate.. Red LCR..
You said you could keep level with your mates Mapped LCR, not lose by 5 car lengths (which is a fair amount on it's own).. But either way, i'll keep my eyes peeled..
I saw a couple of lads one morning going down the M2 (IIRC) near Rainham in a Blue Leon. That had SCN stickers on it and they waved.. Wasn't you was it? Was a few months ago now..

At the end of the day we need to see videos of some kind to prove the latter in various scenarios. Until someone has decent video's of a standard ctr and a standard lcr then this thread should be closed by now.

Or someone on this forum to of owned both, say for about 3 years and 100,000 miles in each.. I guess they'd be able to give an honest, non bias opinion..
Just who though.... Mmmmm :confused::rolleyes:;)

Yes - But did you ever have them both side by side? ;)

i cant see how the civic is faster after 60mph as mentioned above to be honest, leon has more power, more torque and the weight disadvantage will be gone by then aswell.

Just to pick out a point of fact. The weight disadvantage one vehicle has over another is never "gone". All other things being equal the heavier vehicle will always accelerate slower, no matter what speed it's going.

oh and something else to consider.

Just because both drivers were "giving it everything" ,(or whatever phrase you prefer), does NOT mean that both cars were being driven as fast as they can be.

I recall seeing a comparison between a professional driver and an "enthusiast" trying to get the best 0-60 out of an Astra GTE (yes it was a few years ago lol). Results were as follows:

Pro : 0-60 in high 8 seconds.
Enthusiast : 0-60 in low 12 seconds.

The manufacturers claimed 0-60 was 8.5 seconds.

Just making the point about just how much difference the driver can make in the same car.

Yeah but eerr. Off the line is always going to differ.

Was this tdi racing the cars off the line? When you're moving, a straight line race really isn't going to be much different regardless of who's driving. As long as you're not a complete spack with the gear changes that's only going to effect things very marginally, and certainly not "car lengths".

It wasn't just the launch that made all the difference. Alot of the difference was down to the drivers ability to change gears quickly. I guarantee that if you sit in your own car with a pro you'll be surprised at how much quicker they will change gear than you, (and more importantly how much more momentum the car maintains through the gearchange).

Anyway the only point I'm making is that it's untrue to believe that people are all "more or less" as good as each other and it's only if you "mess up" that you'll come out slower. Ask anyone who's ever been on a track and they'll tell you driver skill makes a hell of a difference. Even in just a straight line.

had a bit of sport with an audi tt tonight nothing too outragious just a bit of exelerating off a roundabout onto a long straight. to start with he was in front of me and i caught him fairly easily, then i was in front and he couldn't keep up. i know the 4 wheel drive slows the car a bit but i didn't think it'd be very noticable. it was the 225 bhp version by the way, twin exhaust.

Yes mate.. Had both for a while and tried on many occasion.. Very similar to 100, but after that the CTR started to edge away.. (me and mate as drivers and swapped cars and same result).. But as I say, was only a couple of car lengths.. So stick a slightly less talented driver in either car, or excess weight in either or 1 of a million other things that can affect the result and you will have one beating the other.. Probably why some guys on here have raced a few and won and thought it has to be slower.. When in fact, it's not!
