I really hate this shite, all the derv owners seem to have the need to tell all the petrol owners that they have bought a lemon

There is a lot debate about petrol vs diesel.

As far as im concerned, I walk to work, and use the car at weekends and some evenings, so im not bothered about mpg, I bought the Petrol Cupra.

Yes diesel has it's plus points, if you do big mileage, and even then, it's completely up to the person who's buying whether they care about saving a few quid want petrol or diesel.

They are both great cars, petrol or diesel.

Petrol is more useable power? Are you real!? In everyday road driving, overtakes and general combination of britans roads the diesel is more suited. Driving like a maniac or on a race track, I admit the petrol is the car to have.

The petrol Cupra might not be flat, but the 150 FR petrol is.

Not quite true anymore.

Look at the new Audi petrol units. Maximum torque available from as little as 1800rpm all the way up to 5800RPM. That is just one example. Diesels are a bit like toyotas, they are economical and they are best sellers, but ultimately a bit boring at times. Its the choice of the driver who prefers having money than all out perfomance.

Toyota sells more cars than anyone else, but they are all boring. Diesels are gonna be the best sellers soon enough also, but for a real car enthusiast petrol will always win.

Dont see any diesel 911's or ferraris doe we :D

you diesel lot really do think you have it all keep telling yourself its more usable better at over taking :blah: blah blah

petrols are quicker cars IM SORRY! they sound better and they are cheaper where is your arguement for performance ect!!!!!

No thats very true, and you've stumped me with the 911 because thats the only daily usable supercar. Like Seany said if you do a lot of mileage then the diesel has to be the choice and it was mine. When you drive 35 - 40k a year you kind of don't feel, or can't be arsed to thrash the **** out of the car all the time. Theres something nice about short shifting through the box and still making great progress. I bought the ibiza FR because its about the best alround solution for my job and driving schedule. If I wanted a petrol i'd be more inclined to go for the leon cupra r. tbh I probably wouldn't go for a seat if I was after a fast petrol car with a good chasis.

1.8t isn't a lemon, but its so detuned in the 150bhp derivative its almost annoying to drive. When you think the same engine delivers 225bhp in standard trim in other vehicles you kind of have to agree.

PS: rashcupra: 333bhp in an Ibiza? Are you insane? lol I can only go off what it's like in the scooby (i'm knocking on 340 on a cold day) but that thing can't hang around!!!

well actually its not detuned imo the 225 is just MORE tuned fr just has a smaller turbo (ko3s) instead of the (ko4) found in the leons 225bhp unit and many other diffrences between the two like smic instead of fmic ect ect

seat obviously isnt the best performance petrol car on earth now is it any numpty can admit that but for the price you pay for 1 of these seats and the performance you get and having the highly tunable vag engine under the bonnet gives it GREAT potential when nhighly tuned like to see a porsche keep up with me on the twisties mate ;)

Probably didn't help putting mpg in when driving briskly... :lol:

Your a perfect example of a person who would/should buy the petrol cupra over the diesel. Not commuting just wants it for fun.

As Nathwarr said they're both great cars and they're different for what you usually see driving about aswell.

I drive derv mainly as I commute to work otherwise I'd get a petrol just for fun. Ofcourse for fun I'll have to remap they diesel and get round to getting my bike license to give me my petrol fix.

Oh and I'd definately agree the petrol turbo sounds better but I remember seeing a clip of a vRS with a big turbo and running propane or something that sounded fantastic. So diesel's 'can' sounds good too, just takes alot of work and you not to worry about it blowing up at some point.

I agree though if you are only going to drive it very occasionally go for the petrol cupra.

why very occationally i drive mine every day too and from work and i only fill up 1 time every 11 or so days ;)

because if you do a lot of miles it makes sence to buy the diesel. I fill up twice a week, that doesn't mean anything. If I had a petrol I would be filling up 3 to 4 times a week.

Yep, but we are talking about on a typical British A/B road. The diesel is much more use imo. The petrol will obviously come into its own screaming up the rev range on a racetrack. How often do you do this? :whistle:
