Thinking of changing cars

I currently have a cupra tdi, i am driving 150 miles on motorways twice a week now and I am finding the ride firmness a bit of a pain now( I never used to) I am also filling up alot more, not because of poor mpg but because the tank is small. I was thinking of changing to something like a 120d beemer which i feel is a bit better suited to motorway driving that the ibiza. Just wonderd peoples thoughts on the whole situation.

Personally I think a beemer is a nice car for driving day to day, but the ibiza can be just as much fun. Plus they have just something that BMWs dont, dont get me wrong Im a fan of both.

The 120D is a very nice car, especially in 3 door with the M Sport kit

The quality and ride piss all over the Cupra, it has RWD and is more economical than the Cupra. The car at the top of my next car shortlist is the 123D M Sport Coupe. There will be some affordable used cars available by the time I change, thank god!

Not sure people have anything to be jealous about to people that own 1 series.

Depends how much you wanna spend, new TT's 2nd hand go for about 23k for a TDI.

I'm a fan of the new BMW's also, but not the 1-Series.

I like the 3-Series and 5-Series BMW's especially with the M-Tech kit.

jealous of a 1-series, I don't think so. I feel sorry for anyone with one...they're butt ugly! 3 series is far nicer looking. I'm a huge fan tho of the 5 series especially in estate form, sleek sporty and desirable. However, I would never buy a bmw, the nearest I wsould get is a Mini Cooper S, but they're a huge gay icon ? emmmm well so I've been told, I disagree

still tho, a 1 series definately a no no...how about a Volvo C30 ? Audi A3 or a Golf ?

I hate BMW and what they stand for. The main reason for this is the
fact they 'raped' Rover just so they could get their hands on the Mini (God knows why, every prat and his wife have one- guess thats the reason then!)
At least it looks like they have a sense of humour though, calling Rover the 'English Patient'.
As far as I am concerned, only people devoid of imagination aspire to a BMW.

My own car is a cupra tdi and I have the use of a company 120d es 3dr for longer trips from the office. While I don't like it on twisty roads anywhere near as much as the cupra it's a very good motorway car. It a million times quieter than the cupra and the build quality is in a different league. It goes very well and is more economical, and the ride is so much softer than the cupra. You should get fairly good range as well as it's a 51 ltr tank. If your doing that sort of mileage I'd have a test drive and see what you think.
Forget other peoples "personal feelings" of what a BMW driver is supposed to be, your not joining a club just buying a car. I wish it was that easy because these people would be easier to spot, but from what I see on a day to day basis of the cars on our roads I suspect that the make of your vehicle has very little impact on your driving or being a **** it's a human condition.

As a Motorcycle owner/rider, I agree that the standard of driving is generally poor across the board, but would say that imo the majority (not all) of people that drive BMWs, drive aggressively.

I am not to keen on BMW's I would say the C30 is a good shout. I was looking at getting one before i saw the running costs.

BMW's are nice cars when in the right hands, but i seen too many in accidents or on "police camera stop" to want to get one.

Anyway mate don't rush and get what you want.

No, BMW were very clever. They bought an ailing car company, released the 75, refreshed the ranges, changed the names so that they could plan the 1 and 6 series without getting done for copyright theft, ran it for a few years and realised the only profitable thing left was Mini so they signed that over to the profitable side. The new Mini has been a great seller for BMW and any other manufacturer looking back would've done the same. It hadn't been profitable from the 70s so you can't blame BMW for everything.

How can you be devoid of imagination for choosing a car thats built well, has a great range of engines that other manufacturers are too scared to release, RWD and 50:50 weight distribution in whatever bodyshape you choose? I think there is only one BMW that has perfect 50:50 weight distribution, and now MB and Audi have pretty much matched BMW in the weight distribution category. Engine wise the 335 derv and petrol are standout.

As for BMW being smart with rover, far from it, as it nearly crippled them and they lost a hell of alot of money, and to get rid of rover they had to get rid of Land Rover at the same time, with the new models BMW spent billions on in R&D.

Buy the new A4. Better diesel engines, better interior, better styling, better interior and more driver control over dynamics.

1. The new audis are close enough to 50:50 for a 4WD vehicle, maybe you should try a recent one. BMW xdrive (4wd) weight distribution is similiar to that of quattro audi's, but the audi's always give the beemers a spanking in the magazine tests. Audi no longer mount the engine "right on the nose". Mercede weight distribution is pretty much identical to that of BMW also.
2. 50:50 Weight distribution doesnt automatically equate to a great handling car. Lotus and porsche weight distribution is nowhere near 50:50 at all.
3.Rover was crippling BMW and they could not carry on that way, hence them having to sell rover for what was rumoured to be £1 and having to give away land rover at the same time to sweeten the deal. Just because they managed to release the mini and 7 series doesnt disprove that fact. General Motors is heavily in debt and are loosing millions of dollars every year but still come out with new vehicles.
