Loud Vibrating Noise from engine bay

Hi Guys, over the last couple of weeks my ibiza has developed a loud vibrating noise, coming from the engine bay. It only does it when the car is driving and in gear, and is especially noticable around 2000 rpm.
I'm pretty certain its not the exhaust as there are no soot marks and when i move it about it doesn't hit anything. i cant see anything glaringly obvious of what it might be.
Pretty sure its not an engine mount as it doesn't move around a whole lot.

Its very difficult to say over the internet but just wondered if anyone had come across this before in anyway shape or form and had a suggestion?

Question Grunt on heavy acceleration
I have on 03 tdi sport 130 bhp. When I try to accelerate quite hard it makes a grunting noise which I thought was an exhaust problem, but don't think it is.

I think it is related to the turbo? anyone else had this experience or any other ideas

Thanks

Paul

i think i have this problem, its defo not the intercooler pipe as that part is plastic, this noise is very loud.

from reading on Briskoda one idea is that it could be the dual mass flywheel.

if i floor my car below 2000rpm i get flywheel judder you can feel it through the whole car though, my guess with the knocking noise is there is an intercooler pipe right down by the sump below the smic and that pipe is a known problem for knocking it comes loose and rattles between arch liner and sump i put foam either side and stopped that!!

Are you sure it's not the plastic intercooler pipe rattling against the fuel filter housing ?
It's VERY common on the TDIs.

I have had the same problem since i had my PD130 - mechanic friend thought it was the DMF, Seat wanted to take apart the entire car to find out......I still didnt think it the DMF. Turns out the i/c pipe WAS rattling againt the fuel pump housing even though it didn't look like it was. Two bits of twin-stick, two cable ties and 30 seconds later - no horrible end-of-the-world rattle in every gear!
Before you shell out your hard earned dough, it least try and see if cable tieing the i/c hose to the fuel filter will work before you discount it!

Don't feel dumb mate!! Feel happy that the stealers didn't fleece you for all your money like i did!!!!

Two things i noticed straight away - how weirdly quiet the car sounds with the windows up.....and......i used to know how fast i was going by how loud the rattle got in 3rd and 4th!!! I kept nudging up past 40 everywhere yesterday cuz i wasnt used to not hearing how loud the rattle got!!!!!

Yes it's hard to believe that's where the noise comes from....I spent quite a while with a local garage convinced it was the exhaust or a heatshield.

I think i have this problem and its really bad!! Where abouts is the intercooler pipe and the fuel pump lol, i have the cable ties ready!!!

Mine is a growling noise can only hear it in 2nd-6th just after the turbo kicks in the power under aceleration with resistance... same thing were talking about right?? ....

Need to load it on photobucket to show it on a forum mate, the link didn't work for me - said tinypic has been deleted

Have you got a strut brace?? The air box does rattle against it ocassionally! Cable ties sorted that out again...

Right, for some reason the pic wont work- no idea why! I'll try to describe how to do it.
The fuel pump housing and intercooler pipe are at the bottom left of the engine bay, directly above the left headlamp. Tie one cable tie around one of the posts (at the 3 o'block position) and then loop the other down and around the intercooler pipe, making a link pulling the pipe against the body of the fuel pump housing. Phew! Hope this is enough info for you!

I also had this on my Ibiza as well as the airbox/strutbrace rattle. I just cable tied some pipe insulation foam around the intercooler pipe and strutbrace. Looked neat and allowed the pipes to flex rather than fixing them solid.

As Lee has said this has got to be one of the most single complaints on the mk4 TDI and is just such an easy fix you wouldn't believe it.
