Two things.

Just been searching to find out how a Leon Cupra TDi would fare against a Mk4 or Mk5 Golf GTi?

Couldn't find anything to opinions please :)

What I did dig up though was a lot of rumours that the official 0-60 of 8.9 seconds is too high and it's actually the mid-high 7s?

Any truth to that? The posts were from 2001ish, I'm not fussed about how crap a way 0-60 is to rate cars (don't want to start an argument*) just interested in what it's meant to be capable of.

*that goes out the window with the posts first question though oops...

I'm sure diesel 0-60 figures are misleading because they have to make an extra gearchange compared with a petrol. I also remember reading in one magazine when the Leon Cupra TDI 150 first came out they tested it around a track against the petrol 180 and it was just a few 10ths of a second slower.

3 gears for an LCR too mate!

I'm guessing thats what you mean with the extra gear change?

My Golf GT-TD130 was 3 anyway.

As for a Cupra TDI beating a MK4 GTi Turbo, it should beat the Golf, not ever been impressed with the MK4 Petrols - Any of them! (incl r32)

Not that i'm an expert, but wouldn't beating someone on the M4 qualify as top end - not the 0-60?

I ALMOST bought a mk 4 golf gt red i. I prefered the mk 5, but follishly thought they would be similar speeds. BIG no no. The mk 5 is a fast one - 0-60 in 6.4 (according to the VW garage a while back). The mk 4 is considerably slower. then test drove the LCR and the golf GTI went out the window.

So yeah - would beat a mk 4 but not imo the mk 5.

theres loads of mk4 gti's. the mk4 had a 180bhp too, the tdi leon 150 wouldnt be able to beat that. However a mapped leon would beat the mk5 gti 200bhp.

I'd bet that it would be bloody close...150tdi has a lot more torque and both similar top speeds.

I've been behind a mk5 gti, from 65 to 110, I easily kept up, even lifted. So at lower speeds, where the tdi is king, it should be a walk over, but I'm revo'd.

depends on what MK4 gti your gonna be up against reall, as there is a 1.8 gti (non-turbo) a 2.0 gti (non-turbo) and then 1.8 20vt gti (150bhp) and then the aniversary 1.8 20vt gti (180bhp) and was some TDI's that just have the badge GTI on the back and not GTI TDI! so its hard to say whaich one is which really unless your well clued up on the different looks of the golfs.
