I am collecting my FR next week sometime but the stealer wants me to pay for the car before I come and collect it, is this a new thing?

When I bought my Cupra R 225 and my Smart 44 Brabus, I only paid for the car by debit card on the day I came to collect the car.

I cant see any reason why the dealer would want the money first, is this legal or are they scared I wont want the car when I come and collect it, I am confused.

Any insight greatly appreciated!!!

I'm collecting my FR tommorrow and I will be paying by debit card on the day. I can't see any reason why you need to pay for it before and I for one would be very uncomfortable with it

Simple reason. They have closed the deal before the end of the month. Makes the figures look good ;)

As the others have said, pay on the day, they will still have cleared funds if you pay by debit card.

My biggest fear would be paying in advance by debit card

if for whatever reason they went under between you paying, and you collecting the car - you're screwed. you've lost your money.

However, if you pay on a credit card you'd be covered (but this may or may not be an option!)

I'd tell them to poke it & pay on the day by DC

Hey Stu, am finally getting it, ship arrived over the weekend and getting it sometime next week, been a long wait for sure.

thanks to the others for the insight as well. I dont want to pay for the car until I have seen it and am happy with it. I am sure they wont want to p:censored:s me off enough for me to cancel the order, then they are stuck with a car they cant sell.

I cant think of a reason why they want payment before I collect unless its like S8N said and it makes the May's monthly figures good.

Thanks for the tips, I think I will give them a call tomorrow and tell them to 'stick it'. After what happened to Rich (Cupra R), with the sunroof being left off the order for his CW Cupra I am a bit more wary so want to make sure I am getting what I ordered and in working order.

I'm sure they only want cleared funds when you drive off in it and therefore payment on the day by debit card should be fine. The probably just dont want you turning up with a cheque that could prove to be a worthless piece of paper once you've driven off into the sunset!

Mays figures will only look good if it is registered in May?

Agreed, probably so it show's on May's figure's.

I'll be paying for mine on the day mate, when I went to pick my LCR up, there was a dent from the inside out on the passenger door, which they noticed when PDI'ing the car.

If for any reason something like this happens again, or indeed something else has been omitted from the order (they assure me everything else is on) then I won't be having it (unless I am suitably reimbersed (sp?) again) lol.

He phoned earlier on today, still hasn't turned up at the dealership (maybe tomorrow apparently) he had a choice of 20 reg plates for me to choose from apparently, but the system is down now, so can't choose till tomorrow.

Not long now, I guess mine should arrive in the next day or 2 or bye this weekend. I mean how long can it take to come down on the transporter from Hartlepool :)?

Roll on next week, less than a week now, hopefully!!!!! Dealer hasnt been in last 2 days, so havent heard any more news.

Spoke to the stealer and they are adamant I need to pay at least 48 hours before collecting the car, apparently this is going to be initiated across other dealerships as well eventually. The other guy at the dealer reckons the policy was the same when he worked for Nissan.

Its because sometimes people come to collect and pay for the car on the day only for this to be delayed because there was a prob with the payment, ie, funds not in correct account, payment blocked for some reason by bank, card company etc etc

What they are going to do it give me a call straightaway when the car arrives, hopefully today or tomorrow so I can go over and take a look (not far away) and If I am happy with it then I pay by debit card immediately, then pick up car next week (which I was only going to be able to do then anyway) as the car will need to be registered, PDI'd (is that what its called), cleaned etc.

What a f:censored:n liberty. Anyway not long now :).

No you are right. They are going to call me as soon as its delivered, so i can take a look. If I am happy then I pay and then pick up next week as per the original plan.

Thing is if I only pay on the day I am supposed to collect it they wont let me take the car home, I will have a wait an extra 2 days until they confirm the funds have cleared.

If you use a Debit Card then funds clear there and then provided you have the amount or more in the account? i used debit card and they said was ok that could use it as funds would clear straight away!

i know, thats how I paid for my last 2 cars, I think its just to make sure there are no probs on the day. I mean iF i take look at the car tomorrow or sat its really irrelevant but it is a pain, luckily the dealer is not that far away

is the local garage going to insist on £50 at the same time so when you do drive off you can fill up with petrol because the funds will have cleared?

if i were you once i have the car i would never cross their doorway again, even if it means going out of my way for servicing/warranty.
