Paying for your car before you collect?????

DO NOT pay for the car until they are about to give you the keys. As others have said, Mr. Salesman wants to make this month's figures look better and will tell all sorts of lies to get your cash. Unless you have signed a contract to the contrary you don't have to pay until you have received the goods. Debit card on the day is fine.

If you pay now you will find it very difficult to get any problems resolved in a timely manner. Even if they offer to show you the car before delivery bear in mind that it then leaves them plenty of opportunity to damage it before delivery.

Tell them how it is and don't let this spoil your enjoyment of getting a new motor :)

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input, I dont see any way roudn this as they wont let me take the car until they know for sure funds have cleared, even when paying with debit card. I dont see the point as I have payed this way in the past.

As chris has suggested, I wont be crossing their doorway again, will be going to the nearest other SEAT dealership or VAG specialist.

Dont go to CHESHUNT MOTOR COMPANY, they arent very helpful, they make you feel like they are doing you a huge favour by taking your money off your hands. Mistake learned. Should have gone back to Coupers in St Albans, oh well its almost over with now, getting car next week.

If the car gives probs after paying for it I will just give them hell with the 'Sale of Goods Act'.

There is another way round it, be firm with them! I'm not a finance expert, but my understanding is that a debit card transaction will not go through if the funds are not in the account.

I had a similar problem when I bought my old Evo. I had given them a deposit and was waiting to sell my previous car before I picked up the Evo. However it took me longer than expected to sell it and the Mitsi salesman was trying to tell me that I was obliged to pay for the Evo by a certain date which was complete rubbish. He called me several times and was very aggresive in order to try and get my money. I told him I knew what my obligations were i.e. none and he eventually backed down. It wasn't a very pleasant experience but you cant' let these idiots get the better of you!

Seton, if this is indeed what you are doing just bare in mind about what had happened to my old LCR, the dent was actually under the protective tape that's all over, so as such wasn't seen until being PDI'd, so if I were you I would be wanting to see it with the tapes removed etc.

Mine lands at the dealer's tomorrow, it's going straight into there compound (which is 5mins up the road) I am going to have a look on Saturday and to show them where I would like the Parking Sensors fitting. So in which case look's like they are in no way rushing my car by putting it into the compound, it's supposed to be having side skirts fitted, parking sensors, arm rest door trim kit etc, so not sure when I will be getting it. I now have a reg number for it, and tonight have insured it.

There's no way I'd pay a dealer up front (other than a deposit). Why let them sit on funds that can clear straight away (Debit Card, draft)? It might make their life easier, but who is the customer?

When you buy a house, you don't wait a few days after the money has been transferred to get the keys.

Unfortunately it sound's like they aren't giving him the choice though, unless there is a legal issue that he could use, to be able to not pay until pick up day !!!

I agree, it shouldn't be paid for until you are 100% happy with the car or any product for that matter.

Thanks Rich and the rest of you guys, I am really annoyed at being messed around and when I go to look at the car I am going to 'have a go' at the Branch Manager. I also dont see why there should be a prob if I am paying by card, ie, the auth code.

The car should have arrived by now but still not received a call, useless tossers.

I am just so excited generally but last night I was so hacked off I felt like telling them I dont want the car and that I will go elsewhere. oF course I wont as I have already waited 10 weeks but I wanted to give them a scare.

I ordered my skirts ages ago and they also havent arrived either, so am only getting them sometime next month. I guess there is a shortage or bodykit parts or else the dealer has been useless again.

I am getting to good at whinging now, thanks to CHESHUNT MOTOR COMPANY !!!!!:censored:

PS:Hey Rich whats new, what have you decided about your CW Cupra???

Doh, you have already said. I hope you wil be happy with your decision, I am sure once you see it and drive it, all the other probs will be forgotten.

I hope so mate.

So are the side skirts on back order then??? I hope not.

Mine was supposed to arrive today too, but not sure wether or not it has, I am going to look at it tomorrow hopefully. I'll be making sure there's no dent's on this one.

Wil be 11 weeks by the time I collect the car. Should have been 9 weeks but car just missed the last boat so was delayed a bit. The time does drag, I was getting so stressed, i am not patient at all.

My skirts are on back order, supposed to be coming about mid-june I am told.

Going to look at my baby tomorrow, cant wait

Went to see my lovely CW FR today and it looks fab, although very dirty, still to be cleaned and supagarded, PDI. At least they have got their arse in gear and have started to PDI it, has its number plates.

On another brilliant note the side skirts arrived way ahead of time, so they will be painted and fitted, so all will be done when I pick up the car, SWEET !!!!

The car was inside their garage and out of the sun, also dirty but when I saw it I knew I had made the right choice in getting Candy White, it looks awesome.

Hope to get my hands on it by wed/thur hopefully.

PS: The dealer has relented and I will be paying for the car on collection day.

They still keep telling me that in the future (and with some dealers already) that we will all have to pay for our cars a couple of days ahead. I was so hacked off they finally gave in. Tossers :)
