New handy work... Black 'S' badge and grill surround

olaf - I bought it from somebody who bought it in error. Saw one crop up on eBay but missed out on it. I just got lucky and happened to be in the right place at the right time to get this one. Don't think they are that expensive from the dealer mind you....?

It's sitting fine mate... think the angle of the shot makes it look like that, plus the fact it's a light colour so shows up the shadows. It's fine though

Yea have to agree doesnt look like the side panels against the bonnet are sitting right. Get that checked out matey.

I do like it though and stop using a sponge Rob, I expect better from you! hehe!

Did you sand the surface of the badge and surround to get a surface to key to?.

Looks very good Rob in my experience there are two things to watch out for.

1 - Get plenty of layers of lacquer (and a good key for the primer) because otherwise the black can chip off with attacks from stones etc......starts to look messy with grey primer or Chrome showing through.

2 - Make sure the black 'S' fits properly in the hole with it's new layers of paint, I lost my 'S' on the motorway must have popped out with vibration

IMO looks quite good without any badge

Sponge bath was a term I used as 'Lambs wool wash mitt bath' hasn't got qutie the same ring to it

Rudd - It got sanded very well before the primer went on. Both parts did in fact. Preparation is the key with things like this so I think I spent longer sanding and preparing the surface than I did on the other stages!
It had a good few coats of primer, which was then wet and dried to give a smooth and even finish. I then did a few layers of gloss black paint and then a good number of layers of lacquer, so it is very well protected and should stand up to stone chips very well.

The clever bit was being careful where to apply the heavier (if that's the right word) layers, as I was conscious of the fact that too much paint would make it hard to clip the S badge back into it's space again. It was a tight squeeze, but it's back in there now just as securely, if not more so, than it was before I started, so no chance of it popping out

Looks pretty good rob... i think i'm opposite to most and not a fan of the badge, and like to remove it...

Will be making a slatted debadge grill for a Cupra R soon... so might be an interest for you to look at... as its the second alternative for you...

It's odd Rob, I've just nipped out to have a quick look at mine. The front of the bonnet has four rubber feet which sit on the metal member that runs behind the lights. They aren't adjustable, so unless you have to push your bonnet hard onto the catch to latch it, it's a real puzzle to work out what's up.

If it's any help, the outside pair are about 1" long and the inner pair are shorter. You can see the marks where they sit on the top metal member.
