Just got a 225 steering wheel

I was planning the whip off the old one and put the new one on, however, i think i'll end up with an airbag in my face

Has anyone replaced the steering wheel before?
if so are there any tips you can give me? I've found the cruise control one
Should i be doing anything like leaving the ignition on etc ...

i've done a search and it looks like a few people say disconnect the battery or use vag com, but there is no definate answer on if the vag com route works

Can someone comment on this and also tell me where in vag com i disable the airbag?

Thanks

I'd disconnect the battery for 30mins before doing it, then leave it like that until you're sure that all the plugs are back in. Then the ECU will never know it's happened so no need for a reset with VAG-COM.

dont know if youve already done this,
but just make sure the car is off, ie disconnect -ve
dont put key in.

out a thin strong phillips screwdriver in the little holes at teh back of your steering wheel and push the clips which hold teh airbag in placem on either side, you will see teh airbag unit spring out a bit

then remove the unit and disconnect he two wires,

use your splin and remove teh steering wheel,
notice the notch mark at the top
and replace with new wheel and do reverse of steps
but with airbag just push it back into place,

make sure all connectors are connected properly and tucked away nicely.

and thats it.
