changing turbo on 100bhp pd

Hi guys

really need some help before I make a mistake.
I will be tuning my polo tdi 100bhp tdi over the next few month and want to start by sourcing a turbo and injectors. At first I have been looking for a second hand or recon tdi150 turbo which is a vnt 17. However while looking I have seen few other turbos which are from the 2.5tdi.
Does anyone know what part numbers the larger turbos are and are they a straight fit.

Which turbo would you go for the larger one or should I stick with the vnt 17.
my plans are

allard remap
larger injectors
allard intercooler
new turbo

Thanks

many thanks for the offer but i want something larger than that. would like to see 220bhp ish . I am trying to find out what turbo a vnt2 is from to see how much I can pick on up second hand or recon there are vnt20 on german ebay which go for very good prices but not sure if thats the same as a vnt2

2.5 turbo will not fit straight on - Only a turbo from a 1.9 will bolt on, so your best oem swap is a pd150 turbo. Unless you can go go to the effort of getting the 2.5 turbo itself attached to a 1.9 manifold. Then, you may as well spend £800 odd getting Allard to make a hybrid for you. :)

I sold my VT2 turbo for £350, as a guide. Even though it's still on my car.... I believe it to be based on a vnt17, but has had plenty of internal modifications - hence why it pushes 220bhp on my pd130. :)

Thanks for that devonutopia I didn't know that allard turbo was custom I thought it was from a 2.5 tdi. so what will I need to achive 220bhp will I need injectors as this seems the big cost factor bearing in mind that my engine is a 100bhp

Why don`t you put a PD130/150/160 engine in as it can handle the the power you want or buy a PD130/150/160 car and mod that ?

devonmikeyboy are the interalls also different or is it just the turbo and injectors. I also know that the gearbox could cause problems in the future as mine is a 5 speed but I can change that to 6 speed when the time comes

I am starting to wonder about changing the car. Also have a Bora 150tdi but the polo is a little more fun than that even with 50bhp less

Steff ive done all the mods and the figure your wanting is pushing the engine. I put the KKBV339 which is the equivalent of the Garrett VNT 17 with 130 injectors and getting a reilable 180bhp. If i were to do it again i would go hybrid garrett and limit bhp to 200 and low down torque to save clutch.

Yes - 220bhp through the pd100 block might be pushing things.

You would definitely need:

New clutch - a very good one
Injectors - pd130 would be ideal
Turbo - Hybrid Allard one, or similar from Turbodynamics, etc
Exhaust - freeflowing system
front mounted intercooler
Finally, a decent remap to finish off, once all the hardware is in. :)

Mike above mentioned changing the engine, but I would steer clear of this - coming from someone who has done it, and although it was fun, it was also hard work and expensive. You already have a pd150 bora, so personally I would ditch the polo for something small and fun as a runaround, and throw the money at the bora - it already has fmic and the injectors too. :)

To give you an indication of price to convert, I did it on a showstring of £1200 which included the mapping, turbo, injectors, new FMIC and labour for fitting all hardware. Howver you could do a drive in drive out at Allards and spend £2-£3k, if you dont want the hassle.

Maxcars1 would know more about modding a PD100 then me but yes the internals are smaller and the six speed box is alot better when you are pushing more power. If you want to prove it can be one then i see the point but if you want a reliable car with 200+bhp which will cost you several thousand less to modify then the PD100 to get to the same level then sell the PD100 and get a PD130/150/160. If you do get a six speed box try and get a 0A8.A box not a 0A8.C as the 0A8.A has better gear ratios even if top speed is 8Km/h slower.

It's just an idea but couldn't you swap the injectors / turbo from the bora to the polo, and vice-versa, and then get yourself two remaps, and you're done?

I am starting to think sell the polo now I must be honest.

it's a bit of a long story but I ended up having the polo as my dialy driver which was my mrs car of which I sold my mint Boxster 3.2 S and bought the Mrs the bora as we have a litle one on the way.

My hope was to get rid of the polo and get an S3 or Evo . But the cost of running the polo is pennies and it's a rare model with loads of extras and a anniverasy style bodykit. So I thought start modding it I already had a set of TT comps to go on plus with the kit it's a really good looking car

really don't know what to do now

Give the Missus the polo and you keep, run and modify the Bora. It would be a good starting block having a lot of the bits already that you would need to get the polo to the same spec.

Depends if you want a fast "hot hatch" (polo) or a bit of a "sleeper cruiser" (bora)

Had to get her the Bora to fit a pram in it. otherwise would never had sold the Porsche .

I think i'll fit my wheels and get a remap done 150bhp in the polo will be preety quick may also get some coilovers and see what happens.

as most of you have said the polo is going to need to much work for the money. The time I change the gearbox and clutch plus injectors turbo and deffo brakes.

I'd be looking at about £3-4k I didn't realise that the internalls of my engine are also different to a 150tdi

Well, nothing wrong with spending another £1500 roughly and going down the same road as maxcars, with second hand injectors, FMIC and turbo from a pd130/pd150. I would say you'd get a reliable 180bhp, which would be awesome. :)

Or get a second hand 150 VNT sent to Turbodynamics for hybrid work at a cost of approx £425 incl and that will give you your 200bhp - really the limit i would go for on the 100pd block

mmm you guys got me thinking again. right so whatr sort of power would I have with a turbo and injectors from a 130tdi . 130tdi are a lot easier to get hold of for parts so I could prob get a a turbo and injectors for a good price second hand.

If I went for
Allard intercooler ( as the look awesome)
tdi130 turbo
tdi130 injectors
allard remap
exhaust

what sort of power would I get from this I also think I could do all this with a very low budget.

Or you could sell yours and buy mine ;) as mine has the vt2 turbo on my fr already ;) uprated clutch, suspension etc etc ;)

I don't think I'm going to sell it as if I do I'll prob end up going back petrol and go for a S3 with a garrett 300hp or even an evo 6.
problem is with me is when I get a petrol I get fed up of the running costs and tax is also cheaper on the diesels.
I have had a fair few performance cars over the years I get fed up of putting petrol in all the time when it's costing you a tenner just to goto work and back a couple of times.
In my Boxster S I was getting 40miles out of a tenner now i'm getting a 100miles in the polo mind you I would swap it back any day of the week.
so what sort of power do you guys recon i'll get with the tdi 130 bits
