Well ive been holding back on posting this up, but i feel now is the time.

Basically i totally wiped the front of the car out, was a lot of prove of how ell built these cars are, the damage for the speed i was going and what i hit is remarkable, any lesser car would of been wrote off instantly.

Just been on phone to people fixing it, insurance job, and they said it was approx £6k worth of damage, this happened 2 weeks gone thursday and it will be ready and finished by the 2nd FEB!

Thats a good turnaround, got given a courtesy car, all is good.

So im looking forward to having a mint car back!

Shame my insurance is £750 excess

Sorry to hear your news. Warming to know that they can take a serious knock though. £6k's worth of damage sounds like a lot!?!? Hope you have confidence in it when it arrives back.

I meant confidence that it's all been bolted back together OK. You know what it's like. Every little fault then becomes 'I wonder if this is cos of the crash'.

Well basically it was a dark cold frosty icey night, i had been up to Craig off this forums house in a place called Guisborough near my house, we had been doing Vagcom logs and i was full of the adrenalin rush off a newly remapped car,an icey cold night and a tank of V power.

We were giving the car a drive to get some Vagcom results, all was good and we got what we needed, so i set off home, about 6 miles, the car was flying.

I turned into a road about 1milelong (that i drive every night on the way home from work) i put my foot down (as you can see the full lengthof this road, and there was no traffic).

I then let off the gas, let it coast and then started braking....

That is when the car started sliding and sliding and sliding.....

Felt like it took ages then all of a sudden i stopped dead agains a massive steel gate, lifted the gate and the concrete out of the ground...

Airbags never went off!

Bloody heck mate. I assume you hit an icy patch on the road then? I'm quite shocked that the airbags didn't go off, that doesn't inspire confidence.

Still, you live and you learn... Glad you're ok, metal can be replaced.

My dad rang yesterday and reckons i should go in to Seat explain what happened and kick off that the airbags never went off, tell them i dont feel safe in the car now.

Dunno really, cant do much can they?

I think i must have hit ice, as there is no skidmarks!!

Could have just been diesel on the road, maybe it was damp and just greasy from road salt that hasn't washed off the road surface ... I occasionally go over to stokesley from northallerton and the back road over to the A19 can be very slippy and without warning too.

Airbags will only go off with a certain force, if you were already decelerating and didn't hit with sufficient force, they may well have not activated.

Glad you're ok though .... and that you'll get the car back fixed too.

Was born in Gt Ayton, lived in stokesley till i was about 5 then moved up Newcastle.

Main thing is you're ok - it's probably in your favour that there's no skid marks to leave telltale signs on that private road.

As you say, if it has slowed you down a little then maybe it wasn't a bad thing, any crash you can walk away from without injury to yourself or others is a good one!
