Can I just suggest something - while fully appreciate that this is very different and you are not bragging in any way, after that chav website got into grief recently for the lad who smashed his car up and denied everything, I think you should amend/remove some of your posts. Putting (private road) after a silly speed ain't worth ****.

Not a critiscm, you said you were driving like a total idiot and you paid paid the price. But don't risk making it any worse for yourself?

agreed, going through the gears to 6th could make you hit triple figure speeds, do you want to advertise that fact on a public forum?

bad luck mate.

lesson learnt by the sounds of things, wheni got my car back from the shop after it was repaired i got back in to it and decided there and then i didnt want it any more. just dont feel safe in it any more, none of my airbags went off, thankfully as i would have had to claim then and not pay for the repairs my self. but my conficence in a car took a larger bash than i realise. i am a terrible passenger still and jump and flinch at the silliest of things. i am at about 3/10 of my previous confidence. i want to get back to abotu 7.. and will be happy with that.

glad your safe and take it easy.

i hit a curb in my first leon and caused 7Ks worth of dammage..

the last accident was 3K of dammage.. but that was all paid for cash and i got the parts, had it been though the insurance company it would have been written off.

its so easy to clock up that amount of dammage, but sometimes its silly, garages can and will charge more ofr labour and parts cause they know the insurance company is paying it and has said yes. the guy who fixed my car last time said that should the insurance people looked at it they would have said 6-7K+ of dammage.

I should be thankful I've never had a smash :S How do you people manage it?! Let alone 2 or 3? :<

Touch-wood.. I won't be having one anytime soon, either.

You don't 'manage' it, it's not planned or done on purpose. But sometimes **** happens. Sometimes it's your fault, other times not. But everybody will crash at somepoint in their lives, and driving high powered cars only makes that more likely. So be careful when you brag about not having a crash, fate works in weird ways....

Yeh, definitely. Don't get me wrong, I've had my fair-share of near-misses.. some my fault, others not.

Manage is perhaps the wrong word, if taken literally. I used it more in a sense of "how did ya manage that?!".. if you're with me.

I've been in a car while it was forced off the road by a HGV, up a high A road kerb and into a verge. £2800 damage, 3 new 16" alloys and all-round suspension replacements as a result. Not a fun experience.

Could have just been diesel on the road, maybe it was damp and just greasy from road salt that hasn't washed off the road surface ... I occasionally go over to stokesley from northallerton and the back road over to the A19 can be very slippy and without warning too.

Airbags will only go off with a certain force, if you were already decelerating and didn't hit with sufficient force, they may well have not activated.

Glad you're ok though .... and that you'll get the car back fixed too.
I agree with the diesel theory as with ice you will slide but eventually gain traction in general.

Same thing happened to my brother in his scooby. He was doing 40mph in a 50 zone and all of a sudden...spin spin..smash! He was lucky to be alive as it was quite a bad crash. Police said to him if he was on any other car he would have been dead as scoobys are quite well built. Annoying thing for my brother was when they put the car in its proper position with 1 side completely un recognisable and the other not one scratch the car started up first time with a nice burble sound. Car was written off and brother had a few broken ribs and some bruising.

Was gonna say i didnt 'manage' to do it, it was pure accident.

Makes me glad im fully comp, the insurance company get 10/10 aswell for dealing with it all really well.

As said its bound to happen one day and it was only a matter of time, suprisingly the people that no me dont seem tosuprised that i crashed...
