Hi mate, this problem sounds very much like one I used to have with my Mk2 Golf GTI. It was on a 'G' plate and this was quite a common problem. When I took it in I was told the 'idle control stabiliser' was knackered, so I got that changed, but it didnt sort the problem completely.

In the end after speaking to several people I was told that the idle adjustment screw maybe clogged with soot or carbon build up, so one morning I took it out of its housing near the injection system, cleaned the screw and its housing with WD40 put it back in and wallah!!! :funk: :funk:

Now, I'm not sure if this set up is similar on your car but perhaps worth looking into. Good Luck!!

im not a genius at these things but where abouts is iidle screw? is it in throttle body? and would it by any chance show up on diagnostics or just throw every other sensor out of line? usually thorws up lombard, dv valve or boost control - I really appreciate ure help mate thanks

now worries, in all honestly I am only telling you my previous experience and what I did. I would have thought it was in the throttle body but I am not very familiar with these engines, perhaps worth asking a mechanic?
As I said this problem was with a G reg GTI, technology and engine architecture changes all the time.

That is true - i know where throttle body is but i dont dare to take it off - baring in mind it has been into a seat dealer on 15 seperate occasions for same problem i would of expected them to come to a conclusion - but thanks very much for your help i made a note and will get them at weekend - CHEERS!!

i tell ya what i would do? simply cos i can be an annoying git is complain about this issue to SEAT UK, fancy going down that route?, even though out of warranty now still an unreasonable ammount of revisits to get a problem sorted whilst under warranty. Breathe down their necks HARD, you may just get a result. Try...

had this and reported it to my dealer twice.

2 new MAF's later and problem solved - virtually. Still does it occasionally but nowhere near as bad as it was.

how low does the idle drop??? does it stall and are you resting your foot on the clutch pedal at same time???

on occasions it is really bad and drops to the point of cutting out - but doesnt actually cut out - i must admit as well it does do it mor violently when foot on clutch - but again foot off it can do it just as bad - clutch piston has also been replaced re sticking clutch pedal - GOBLE wat do you suggest??

i have they dont seem to want to know - i nearly took seat dealership to court they were that crap - but doing that would still not of got my problem fixed - plus it is now out of warranty - so they tend not want to know unless i am paying them - and just to take a wheel nut off they tried charging me £70 for one hours labour - but will investigate further -

Does this happen when coming to a stop as well as idling? I had a problem on my old Polo where the revs would drop and even stall when slowing down. Turned out to be a problem with the ECU software - apparently very easy to fix. Ran like a dream after this was diagnosed. Maybe something to consider when you take it back.

Also, might be worth taking your car to another garage, that has diagnostic tools. Sometimes, a new mechanic/garage can detect a problem very quickly.
