Not sure if the data is exactly the same. What it allows you to do is check the data in real time when the car is being driven and whether the high revs is because the car is trying to do a regen. You can see that on the app, as well as calculated soot levels etc. You can then review that data and see if anything looks wrong. If your mechanic does it, you only get a brief snapshot whilst he's checking things. With VAG DPF you can have it running whilst driving, which is why it is so useful.
