1.8 20v help

Bought the car three weeks ago and I realised that I have no idea about the car. Usually I will trawl around the web, gleaming information whereever I can find it but not this time.

Does any one out there have any specs for the 1.8 20v SE model that they can display here? BHP figures, torque, etcetc..

Cheers all

Dont have any pics but its a 99 V, Dragon green with the beige interior, 48k on the clock. Annoyingly its got a glitch with the LCD readouts, (Missing lines), so that could be a connection problem, failling that new clocks. Will try and get some pictures done when A)I get a chance and B) after I have washed it!

EDIT-------> Right, washed it now. Photies are here but A)please excuse the quality, limitations of a cameraphone and B)only took 'em half hour ago so the light is a bit bad too!

Trust me Sam if it's just for the mirrors, after the week I've had so far ... I'll swap with you [:@]

Spotted a Toledo in this green colour the other week (for the 1st time) gotta say I was very impressed - they look different somehow ... very smart looking [B)]

...and the rest :(

After breaking into the Toledo a few weeks ago when the deadlocks locked, the problem seemed to go away of it's own accord (damn intermittent electrical problems)
Yesterday the mirrors wouldn't fold out on the way to work, and when I got to work none of the doors would lock (boot's still fine,as it was last time)
As a precautionary measure I popped the seat backs ... glad I did too cos last night the remote locked all the doors ... *hoorah, problem fixed* ... and then wouldn't open them again

At least it's locked

As always with any car I have. In order to save costs I take out any minor changes/repairs myself, BUT nowhere can I find the haynes or workshop manuals in book form so I have been guessing from my experience and it seems to be paying off. Pretty simple can, most of it is just screwed together with easy-to-access torx screws or with pretty weak clips. As for the engine, Seems as though it is put in back to front compared with the other cars i have had with the inlut manifold on the front of the engine and the exhaust manifold on the rear. Apart from that pretty much the same. Easy to do repairs on and parts are easy to find because of VW/Audi linkage. Just got to try and fix my electric heated mirrors now :(

I have been having trouble for some time now with regards to the alarm setting when locking....(ie the indicators flashing), narrowed it down to the control box in the passenger door having cracks in the solder......it was reconned (by my other half because hes an electrician)...........Do you reckon you could be suffering the same problem in one of your doors.....not getting the correct signal or at least not sending it to the other locks.........as i understand it the master unit is in the drivers door, maybe the problem is in that control unit?

Electrics are a Pain in the a55.:censored: ..........
still not worked out all the parts we need to get these darn electric mirrors working....not far off, but it is a job i wish we hadnt started as it appears that they are not a stand alone system and are linked to locks or windows or sommit!!! GDI!

thesonny: as for haynes.......i have used the Bora/golf manual for brakes, bushes, suspension, locks, windows and engine.....but if you have a PD diesel it wont be any good for engine help......petrol and normal diesel i believe are covered in there.

Fixed last night :D

... and broken again this morning - climbed in through the boot and opened the doors from the inside but now they won't close

The mirrors (when they're working properly) come out of foldable mode when you reach a certain speed - although I haven't figured out what that speed is yet - so it wouldn't surprise me if they get some ECU signal through them (or the control box, if such a thing exists)

Gonna tear everything out of mine in Jan and turn it into a Toledo-shaped Audi sportback, so I'll see what 'features' I have left when I've got it all up and running again

The electric mirrors are linked into the door switchs as they will not work once a door has been opened. Also the doors will not lock if the driver door is left even slightly ajar so my suggestion would be to locate the door switch (somewhere in the catch I believe) and see if it's faulty i know the one on my car get stuck closed, but yours could be getting stuck open? just a thought. And i have a 1.8 SE so the manuals should work for mine yeah? cheers
