Well, with hindsight, there's no way i'd buy a car without the service history. It's a no brainer - but to be honest even though i've bought like 3 cars i'd always taken it for granted that you normally receive these documents...

Next time i'll have to see the documents before I even test drive the car.

But there we are, experience is lifes hardest teacher. Gives you the exam first, then the lesson afterwards!!

I don't think you'd see any service history on a 9k old car.... the mistake was that you assumed MP serviced the car before you got it.

I think the Renault Diesels have a service interval of 24 months or 18k It's a different engine i know BUT they seem to run ok.

It is true the service intervals are longer. Our works Renault Master has a 24000mile interval. However you can't really compare the two engines.

The renaults run on a lower pressure common rail design whereas the Seat has VW's pumpe deuse (injection pump) engine which operates at a much higher injection pressure and as such id more vulnerable to damage caused dirty fuel and dirty oil....

And there it is. The mistake I made.

Still, it appears I should still be OK as Seat confirmed that even 5K over 10K, I won't invalidate my warranty.

We'll see in an hour (hopefully get my car back then#)

Like i've said in my post, I DO realise the engines are different. It was simply an example.

You can get the same PD engine in a VW on the extended service life thing that will do 20k/2yrs between services.

The only thing different is the oil spec.

Would that be why Seat wasn't too worried about me going probably 5K over the 10K then?

Sounds likely to me - i'd imagine they'd only run the engine for a fraction of the time it CAN run unserviced for. As if they had a huge service interval then warranty claims would be much more common as the components would begin to fail etc etc.

I took it back, and when I raised hell, all the salesman disappeared within seconds. What a bunch of weasels.

In the end the manager came back and claimed that it wouldnt happen in their yard as there are no kerbs. Load of bollocks, there's loads!

ARRGh, i'm going to scream. I'm making a formal complain to them, and probably reporting it elsewhere.

Motorpoint dont sell imports, but they sell euro spec cars (so they say)! you also have up to 1000 miles after your service is due before your warrenty becomes invalid, however i got warrenty work done on a car when it was 3000 miles overdue a service as it was a tight couple of months and my local dealer was fine with it! shop around theres plenty of other seat dealers that would be happy for your service, at the end of the day they will get more money charging seat for a warrenty item than they would charging a customer!

Sorry they do sell imports, I have bought one from them! Mine came from Cyprus, like a MASSIVE amount of their cars, would say 70-80% (of the new ones) are grey imports from Europe, most coming without the full UK warranty and the spec is quite often not the same.......Buyer beware!
