Dealers washing the car at service

I know how you feel mate. Just had my LCR in for first service and not only does it seem they put the wrong oil in the car (see other thread) think they have washed it with a dirty rag as the swirl marks are everywhere.

Needless to say wthey will not be washing the car again!

Why is it so easy to bash listers? Last time I was there they told my mate the intercooler was before the turbo on his tdi and it had oil in it to lubricate the turbo!!!

When I took my car there I noted the milage and left it with a dribble of petrol so they couldn't go far.

:roflmao: dont get me wrong, there are some nice people there, Paddy and Neil Henderson (sales manager at chrysler now) are very good people, and i regularly go over for a chat etc. But as for the service guy Dan, ill stick him on his arse next time im over there, as he was the twat that that apparently took my car into the workshop, wheelspinning it past the show room, and then told me oh no it didnt happen. Aragant little *****, but i know what you mean, some of them dont have a clue, and i go over there and make them look like tits  by asking them questions i know they wont know the answer to :D

I understand how u lot feel. Where i work, we have a muppet who cleans the cars and actually makes it look like the sea has been lapping up the side of the car. He doesn`t realise that people do take take pride in their car.

Listers Monkeys

I bought mine in January of this year under the Revolution Deal. It had to go back with a couple of niggles one a split turbo pipe. When I asked how they tested it, expecting RR or something technical all I got back was "we took it for a test drive and it now pulls like a train".
And yes Dan nearly got a slap that day, he is a disgrace plain and simple. The tyres were full of white stone chippings that were so annoying I pulled into TGI Fridays to pick them out of the tread pattern, test drive must have included handbrake turns and donuts.
After that incident I also clocked the mileage when I had to drop it back in again. I m keeping the car long term as now its trouble free and it will make a great second car so I m servicing it myself.
Just goes to show, you cannot even trust them to clean the car, what actually goes on while they have it to do something major does nt bear thinking about, but I digress!!

update.

I had a chance to check the car in direct sunlight shortly after and the car is full off swirls. There were still large patches of dirt up the side with brush marks all over it [:@] It is blatantly obvious they have washed it with a brush.

Anyway I phoned them back (Holders of Congresbury btw) and complained. I was put through to Rob the service manager (the same chap who told me previously there was no such thing as refurbed MAFs until I got a part no. from another dealer at which point they suddenly appeared on his system)

Rob's idea of customer service is completely non existent, it was so pathetically obvious he was saying anything he could to get out of trouble. I asked him what touches the car when they wash it, he said nothing it's just a jet wash. Absolute boll*cks, he then goes on to say he doesn't know what they use to wash the car!!! Make up your mind, which is it? Anyway we argue, he tells me to bring the car in so he can look at it, fob off anyone?

I put the phone down and 5mins later I get a call from a woman from Holders asking how my service went the other day!! I explained the problem and she was very helpful, she took responsibility that they did something they were told not to do and she mentioned possibly getting the scratches polished out and she will speak to Rob.

Anyway, 4-5 days later I haven't heard anything back so I email Holders FAO the woman I spoke to and get a reply this morning saying the person I need to speak to is the service manager Rob but he's not back until tuesday. I just know I'm not going to get anywhere, I'm so furious they treat customers cars this way, just think what they do behind closed doors in the workshop!

Any advice?

How much would a bodyshop charge to remove the swirls roughly? The problem is you look at the car under normal conditions and you'd think, what's wrong with that? Direct sunlight (non existent atm) at it's obvious there clearcoat is damaged, lots of straight scratches up and down the length of the car and side to side along the roof (I wash with a soft wash mit and not in the same direction, it was 99% swirl free before I know this)

Service was expensive aswell, 40k inspection service less air filter and I provided the oil, £215

if nothing happens from the dealers i got my pc deswirled for 50 quid and polished sealed and waxed by a member of detailing world but hopefully they will get this sorted thats if they even know the difference between swirls and scratches

Speed six, id demand to speak to the dealer principle, explain that the car was not in that state when it was taken in, and that you want the problem rectifying. Also just mention that you are on seatcupra.net, see what they say then, as im sure they wont want bad press being said about them on such a big forum. See what they do then.

The bodyshop I use charge £250 to cut and seal paint (8 stage process) it comes out like glass but I supose it should for that money

Credit....theres always a price to pay.

I d just confirm who and what they are actually going to do. If it s relatively new paint work an aggressive cut and polish will look good in the short term but can be a mare later on. It needs an experienced hand and not the guy who washed it in the first place!

I agree, they wil probabaly get some monkey to get an electic buffer on it to leave smeers and burns, I would take it somewhere you know and trust and get them to foot the bill, if they couldn't even manage to wash your car (despite your instructions not to) what hope have they got as sorting the problem they have caused???

slightly off topic, but my mate took his Cavalier Sri in for a routine service with oil and filter change, and they managed to use the wrong oil and filter. His engine went bang. Garage refused to acknwowledge they were at fault, but after investigation from the insurance company he now has a brand new lump in his car.

My Polo went in for a service at the dealers, and afterwords, i opened the glovebox under the steering wheel and it fell off. One of the brackets had snapped off. Funnily enough you have to take this out to get to the fuse box, but according to them, no-one touched it. What a suprise. I went f$$$ing mad with them, but got nowhere. Needless to say, it never went back there.

Mechanics that take pride in their work must have boiling blood when they read sh$t like this.....

This is the problem. There is a local bodyshop who I trust, but when I mentioned it the service manager didn't seem too keen on this and wants to use the person they use for all their bodywork. I know it's something that if done wrong can end up worse in the long run which obviously I want to avoid. I'm tempted to just pay to get the swirls removed and suck it up but I don't see why I should.

Do i get a quote and try and get seat to cough up?

Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Where abouts in the country are you speedsix? I'm a detailer and if you are local I'd be happy to give you a quote on de-swirling the car. I'd be wary of letting them do it simply because cars we see from dealerships (and a lot of bodyshops) are covered in holograms, buffer trails, etc. Its disgusting. They often give an untrained person a cheap rotary polisher (which is the hardest to use properly), they grab a bottle of aggresive product and go at it like mad.

Its very fixable, but not cheap, and equally easy to make worse in the wrong hands.

its terrible all these stories. All we ask for is a bit of decency.

My car was bumped in the corner when it was in for the 20,000 service - knocked the headlight, wing, and the bonnet didn't pop up when opening - you had to pull it. The acknowledged and fixed it (and did an good job, actually) - I called in to ask if it was done they said yes it all finished. went to pick up the car and found a worse bump on the other side. said they couldn't fix it as paint is still fresh they would do it next service.

Plus along with the first bump they completely messed up the alignment - after replacing CV boot. Also fixed but...

Not as bad as other stories but they could be a bit careful with people's cars.

My Alpine HU has a glide-touch bar which stopped working after a dealer visit - I think someone spilled something in it and just wiped the face clean - sorted with a bit of contact cleaner but still things like this are annoying.
