Is the Seat Strut Brace worth £50?

I quite fancy getting a seat strut brace for my Ibiza.

I've done a search and most people say it's for looks only :( but some say they noticed a slight handling improvement :) .

So, is this 'slight' improvement worth £50 or is it better spent on something else?

Thanks

i noticed a bigg difference on my cupra...

but it does have its bad points. one if ur in an accident u will fuk both sides of the car even if u only hit one side. and trying to get up my mates mum drive is a nightmare. have to go up at a funny angle and it cant flex teh chassie enough. but other than those its fantastic. when u drive hard u will notice it i cna throw the car round round about at silly speed with little to no roll (think the cupra arb help this to) but on every day driving its not really worth it

just got to think how often u drive hard and fast and then decide

Great Smee, thanks.

i brought the forge strut brace for my mk4 ibiza cupra as wanted a polished one.

as it has been said, on day to day driving i dont feel much difference, but on my way to work i go down a dual carrigeway with a couple of round abouts on it and when dry, i can throw it round and it holds the road really well!

have got a track day on the 2nd december at bedford aerodrome so will see what its like then! might do some laps with it on, then take it off see if i can feel a difference at all

Have the seat strut brace fitted to my fr and definately made a difference much better on the twisty stuff.
wont reduce roll though it just stiffens up the strut mounts reducing body flex

Correctomundo - though the big chassis plate does a fair job too.

Simon34, I too fitted rear spacers (although 15mm) and noticed quite a big difference! Did you find a similar difference when the brace was fitted?

Similar steering became more responsive and better controled on hard cornering also less rattles from the front end just need to get some decent tyres now as these pireli's suck

Great.

And you didn't have any problems with the airbox catching?

Badger5 on here supplies 15mm Eibach Pro-Spacers (including longer bolts) for £90 IIRC. :)

Great.

Does rub on the air box also had to remove the engine cover because even after triming it still knocked a bit when driven hard though i have a 20vt so diesel might be ok:D

I still havent got mine...

Its between rear wheel spacers and the SEAT strut brace...

Each have there own merit! I have both on my FR TDi.

I have had the Seat Sport Strut Brace on since I had the car but did notice my car suffered from alot more over-steer rather than under steer.

I then stripped out the back of the Ibiza and under heavy breaking the back end would flick out. Once I got my 15mm rear spacers it cured the problem, until I got my 312mm brake upgrade, which again now causes the back end to again step out!

So, strut brace = over-steer

15m spacers = under-steer

Both = Perfect!

surely if the cars staying flatter through a corner with a strut brace on cos its stiffening the chassie then its got to be reducing roll aswell.

its like drifters seam welding all the cars up its stiffens the chassie less flex and keeps it flat whilst drifting. hence no body roll

The brace wont make the car corner flatter it just cuts down the distortion in the strut's you can only reduce roll with stiffer anti roll bar and suspension upgrades
Most race cars are either seem welded or bonded so that the body is as stiff as posible so that the suspension can do the job its suposed to do
