My ibiza fr tdi has been remapped now for about 3000miles, there is a heavy vibration through the gearbox when accelerating in 5th or 6th gear around 2k rpm. I know my friends ibiza 130 does something similar but my car is alot louder and has got louder in the last 1000 miles. Any thought would be great!

Searchy Searchy...

That will be your DMF vibrating due to too much strain on the clutch...

You shouldnt be booting it at 2k in 5th or 6th anyway...

Change your driving style and dont use the accelerator pedal as an on/off switch...

OR spend £750 on an uprated clutch from JBS

When I experimented with adding a resistor mod to my already-remapped PD130 Ibiza, I got exactly the same problem.

And it wasn't due to harsh acceleration....it happened quite easily when driving it sensibly.

Best bet is to get your remap altered and get the torque pegged back slightly at the revs where the shudder happens.
Who did the remap ?

ok, it even vibrates a bit in 6th when goin easy at 65mph just accelerating a small amount to 75mph then after that its fine. obd-auto-tune.co.uk did it. I got the torque reduced to 265lb/ft but it never change anything. My car standard was 255ib/ft

265lbft is pretty low, maybe your DMF is just knackered then.

Is it still under warranty ?

Mine's exaclty the same. Got the map pegged right back and it still does it. Put the original map back on (for warranty work) and it was fine...(if a little slow  )

TBH I'm at a loss what to do with mine - remapped by Bell Autos.

only mod is a cheap tuning box

the previous owner had a new gearbox and clutch so it souldnt be that

I know the DMF is bad in them. Dunno if we just have to live with it or live with 130 bhp. I think we all should complain to seat why can we not remap them with out things going wrong lol

Indeed, but the clutch/gearbox/DMF will all suffer when the input torque exceeds a certain limit.

On the TDIs this is generally low down the rev range, where the output power is still relatively low.

So you could have a monster TDI that developed 250bhp at 4500rpm, but as long as the peak torque (usually down around 2-2500 rpm) didn't exceed say 300lbft then the clutch/DMF etc may well survive quite happily.
On the other hand, you could have a TDI that's just mapped to say 170bhp at 4000rpm, but if it had a torque peak of 310-320lbft at lower rpm (quite common with a lot of maps) it would probably suffer from clutch slip / DMF shudder etc.

Hope that explains better :)

That's the weird thing. At my last map tweak, I got Pete to turn the torque down, so that peak torque now comes in at 2,500rpm. Maybe need to get peak torque at 3,000rpm? Would it feel sluggish low down, though?

@jasement ,, ive just opend your file in WinOls software and looking at what i did to your torque in your car.

The figures you have now are within the limits of the standard clutch and what most other good tuners would give you.

I dont mean to offend but as posted already.

You shouldnt be booting it at 2k in 5th or 6th anyway...
Change your driving style and dont use the accelerator pedal as an on/off switch...

Drive it and dont rive it .

But still said , i will turn down even more if you wish ???

I understand what you are saying, and its not like I'm forcing the problem every day - but it shudders in 3rd and 4th too.

It's just really annoying on the odd occasion that it does it (ie get caught in the wrong gear and have to go above half throttle).

Cheers for the offer, wonder if an uprated clutch would COMPLETELY solve the problem? Think I'm going to give it a few months and see if/when I wreck the clutch/flywheel, and uprate them both.

An uprated clutch would no doubt solve the problem,,

but your car is in my opinion is to new to have to worry about changing the clutch your self and possibily voiding your warranty.

I would leave it as it is considering as you say it only does it on the odd occasion.
If the clutch does fail i would let seat change it under warranty

Would the warranty still be valid - especially for a clutch on a remapped car?

I just had one (can't remember which...) of the clutch plates replaced by Allard, and there's no shudder, no slip - just a solid biting point. I think it was around £200 - will dig out the receipt.

err it wouldn't go to the dealer with the map on it

Pete - Yeah I think you are right - will wait and see. Definately no actual clutch slip, so it should be fine for now.

As james knows ,, if i sell a remap to a car that is still in warranty.

I will remove the mapping for warranty work and replace it after they get the car back.

Just another free service i provide. :)
