Disapointed with Revo!!!!

Alright all.

After 4 months of owning a black 03 Cupra R i have finally decided to do the Revo thing.

I said i wasn't gonna, under no circumstances, now way, ever going to do any modding to this car, that's what i've got my bike for

Then i find this web site and try my hardest to resist but no, all i read is....Remaps are a must, you won't regret it, 30% more power etc. etc.

I'm too weak to resist that kind of talk, i'm a guy with a need for speed so have booked my LCR in to Votex in Congleton this Thursday pm.

I'm quite apprehensive but having spoken to Mike am feeling a little more at ease with it all.

Will let you know how it's gone on Friday.

Nice one

Make sure you give a good report of Revo and what you think of it once it's done! Is your car otherwise standard or have you changed anything? If standard, you'll want to change the DV as the standard one is prone to breaking with remapped cars.

As for tailoring the car to different fuels, you'll need to get yourself one of the SPS devices that allow you to make these changes. A quick search should throw up some info as there have been plenty of discussions about it.

Votex will set the car up according to what fuel you use, if you change it can easily be tweaked by an SPS controller (bought or borrowed at a meet) or by the dealer

I'll be sure to post my feelings with the remap.

I understand all the sps options as i've done a fai bit of reading but was just told that the generic map could be installed tailored to my fuel requirements, quite how when it's generic i'm not sure!!!

The car is totally standard as far as i'm aware. I presume the DV won't fail instantly and will go after a certain amount of time???

It's something i'll get done but don't want the thing choking on the way home.

Better fuel is always a good idea. Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate and Tesco 99RON are the favourites. Even on my semi-standard car there is a big difference between normal and super fuel.

And if you get your car mapped for this type of fuel, the extra performance will be even more noticeable!

let us know what you think after you've had it done as i'm hopefully getting mine re-mapped in the new year and at the moment i'm keeping my options open. i'll probably get mine done at TTS roadsport (TT shop) in bedford as they're five minutes from me.

Don't want to go on about fuel as i know it gets talked about loads on here so is enough to read.

Thinking of removing the Cat also, that should make some good ground i think.

Personally I'm greedy so I'd be asking them to set the boost higher and timing and run the car on super unleaded but depends on your circumstances / mileage etc....

Not sure what the new settings are but I used to use High Boost 6 timing 6 which is good for Summer and winter use

More noise and not much extra power in my experience, it's not exactly a tunefull engine to listen to either.

Stick to a remap and maybe a decent panel filter and air feed, when the brake pads and tyres expire look to upgrade those too

I'm put off messing about with the air filter as i replaced this on my Vectra GSI 2.5 V6 and it ended up sounding like a total chav machine everytime i booted it so took the thing off.

As for pads mine are cack at the moment, far to much fade far too early. Will be changing these as soon as poss.

Doubt as much as 10bhp and that's the fly figure + your turbo 'may' spool up a couple of hundred rpm sooner

IMO the limiting factor is the turbo itself, once remapped it's working pretty darn hard and becomes more of a blockage than anything else when further mod's are applied.

Induction kits and Exhausts on 1.8T's should be bought for Bling factor or sound only IMO.

mate concerning the air filter, there's no real need for anything other than a new green cotton panel filter and while you have the airbox open and your messing with it,take it off and smooth it,and put in a bigger air feed,it aint hard work and is a damn sight cheaper than an induction kit there's threads here about the how to's and why's ,did it to my cupra and there is a definite difference in pick up,am going down the revo route in the new year and speaking to the guys who will be doing it,the set up i've just mentioned is just as good as these induction kits.

Unless you remove the DV and test it you won't know, however when my DV was shafted the car felt so slow it was unreal (slower than before the remap) it was a massive hesitation. When I floored it the car would just not boost for 1-2seconds (felt like a week) and then slowly boost rose and you accelerate away. Those were my symptoms anyway

the car defo feels sluggish in the last couple of weeks but I had my revo turned off for a visit to the dealers about a month ago and have not had the chance to turn it back on yet due to being on holday and work so hard to tell. i'll get it turned back on when i get the chance and take it from there.

Iv just been reading this thread and realised where your from. Didnt think there was anybody on here local to me. Also I can highly recommend Votex, had my Cupra serviced there and they did a fantastic job.

I actually did a drive by past Votex about a month ago and didn't think it would be that impressive but since then i've read a lot of good things about the place.

Staff (Mike) seem really informative too which is a bonus.

Votex doesnt look much does it? But they know what they're doing and theyre loads cheaper that the stealers!!!

youll feel a big difference for your money mate... do it.

no point tho imo to run on crap fuel. when mine was stage 1, i ran it on 95 ron due to a shortage and my engine hated it. very noticable. waste of cash to get yourself a faster map and not run at its full potential.

getting a sports cat gave me 10bhp but thats a bigger downpipe.
