My dealer is pretty confident they have one arriving next month (December) and has said to my dad he can test drive it. I'm unsure about it, lol

This new Cupra is more expensive than a Focus ST2 and not that far off a Golf GTi. It doesn't look mean like the old Cupra R looked (From the front) and the interior is pretty horrendous

Ooops. Maths not a strong point? £22030 RRP for a Golf GTi five door in red with 18" alloys and bi-xenon headlights as the only options. I wouldn't say that is not far off - unless you are also saying the 200PS isn't far off the 240PS?
An ST2 with five doors and optional dual zone climate is £19795 RRP.
I suppose the horrendous interior is down to taste - as is the STs exterior.

as usual with SEAT cars being reviewed, go test it yourself and ignore the bloody mags. How can you take a review serious when the writer is so schizophrenic, ( or as i like to call it, has'nt driven the car at all!!!!!!)

i give you these two quotes from CAR review.

"Thing is, it doesn't feel appreciably faster than the VW,"

&

"It's certainly appreciably faster than the Golf GTi"

I rest my case, wait for a test drive

No need to get so defensive. I was comparing the basic RRP of the cars. Sure the new Cupra has loads more kit than a base GTi, as did the Cupra R of old compared against most of it's 'rivals' at the time, but none of it is essential stuff when you get down to it. Ultimately I didn't think I could live without climate control after having it on my old Cupra R, but my Focus ST has Aircon where you have to (shock horror) twist the temperature gauge!

When it comes down to it, it's how the car drives that is most important. In terms of Power, Handling, Refinement etc etc. Nobody here has personally driven a Cupra yet so all we have to go on are the opinions of Journos and they do always seem a bit VW biased.

Going back to the thread regarding the Cupras unveiling at the British Motor show, it seemed that mostly everyone agreed that the interior was garish and that the bodykit was a bit lame. Is that huge black plastic bit still on the back?

As for the Focus ST, It looks pretty horrendous and I don't disagree. I've got the Performance Blue one which is a bit understated but you certainly couldn't say it's a nice looker. Inside it's all quite nice, a big improvment on both the old Focus and my old Cupra R. My ST3 has the leather seats which really set the cabin off but i'm not going to claim it's better than a Cupra without driving one, that would be stupid.

I can tell you from my personal experience that I am happier to be sat INSIDE the Focus ST when compared with the new Cupra. All I am saying is that going by the initial bunch of roadtests, it makes me feel more confident that I did the right thing with respects to buying a second hand ST.

New Cupra Article on Topgear.com

Topgear.com has an article of the New Leon Cupra.... I'm sure Top gear don't like Seat's, the write up isn't great and I've not once seen one on the show

I seem to remember Jeremy Clarkson saying about the MK1 Leon Cupra R that having the fastest car out of Spain is like having the best chocolate from Egypt.....

Here it is anyway guy's and gals!

All these comments about it not being "punchy" and it having "mild acceleration" - maybe suggest it is a de-tuned S3 then ??

yeah - not quite enough in the boost area to give it a kick

but as I've said - I don't think anyone's thinking about buying one for 240ps

No, most of us won't drive a standard one, I agree. Might be as good a "best kept secret" as the existing ones then.

All my interest is purely related to trying to figure out if it's a tuned-up 200 or a de-tuned 260. Because if it's one, it'll not chip brilliantly (might as well get an FR), if it's the other it'll chip really well.

Still won't have a big enough boot for me though, really. I might yet end up in one though, if it's orderable at the right time :D

Yeah right Scott  has your dealer registered up on here :p ;)

They knew my last car was modded. :)

Nah - It's just that I'm 5 years older than when I first got the R, I've now got a littlun, and wifey will be driving this one as well.

I'm just getting more sensible in my old age. :)

But then I'm sure I said way back I wasn't going to mod the R....

well today i read my first good review about the leon cupra, and it was in the SUN. By all accounts they loved it, and there was no negative comments about it at all. Was totally different to every other one i have read.
