the handling is not too bad, they do feel different to the lower spec ibizas. But they are never going to set the world on fire. not really in the same league as the Clio 182 or even Mini cooper s.

But they don't have half the torque the cupra does,

If you want A diesel car with top notch handling then go for a thurlby 888 Diesel astra. but then they ar 4k deraer brand new, and i think they are all sold out now

Buy one, you won't regret it. I test drove one and knew I had to have one. Anyone who drives my standard PD160 giggles like a little child!

Go drive one and make up your own mind.

In the real world now, how many of us (and be honest) actually drive the car to its handling limits on the road?
Yup there is a little too much understeer for my liking, and you have to be a little careful when acclerating out of a corner (a compromise with having nearly 300 ft lbs of torque), but you'll get issues with most cars, as mentioned these can all be changed.

I love my Ibiza, it's the driveability (and the torque) I enjoy the most and after having covered 37k miles in one year, I still look forward to driving it every day.

Don't be put off by car reviews, at the end of the day its your decision, so go and enjoy a test drive.

I've a remapped FR TDi and love it to bits, a bit peeved at the moment as I'm on medication which stops me from driving it. However, I just get my dad to drive me around at the moment, and I gasp everytime with the power delivery! :cartman: :cartman:

Go on you know you want to! :funk:

a massive issue ,

its made out to sound like a great car ruined by handling issues possibly steming from a heavy diesel engined front.

my situation is that I can get diesel for free which almost forces me to get a diesel powered car, I don't have enough income to not take advantage of it.

Though i'm still tempted by a clio trophy and pay the petrol costs.

I'm coming from a slowish car that handles in a fun kinda way.

I do 10k per year and in the trophy would work out at around 160 quid per month.

So it comes down to whether I want to spend a large percentage of my money on petrol and get a car that handles alot better.

The problem being is that the only diesel car that intrests me is the ibiza cupra.

I think the best idea is to test drive an ibiza cupra and if its alright then buy it and if not get the trophy.

IMO for everyday driving the ibiza is fine... its only when you really push it it starts to show how wooly it is through corners...

Its not a track day hero but is still very fun to drive

A few tweaks i.e rear spacers, and a strut brace tightens it up very nicely...

In my opinion the ibiza's the better car, it quick, Reliable and Economical. Whereas Renault have been known for there bad build quality

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with the Ibiza Cupra's handling. You probably would not notice any probs at all.

The only thing is if you jumped in a Mini or Clio Trophy then you would notice the difference straight away. But don't be put off by the above commetns, the Cupra is a good car, and unless you are gonna do loads of track days i would'nt worry about the handling at all.

If handling was your biggest priority you would be buying a lotus Elise in the first place

id have the tdi cupra over the trophy ne day renault are known for bad build quality and mechanical problems (FRENCH) these vag engines will out run a renaut engine twice over there easier tunable too!!!!!!wouldnt be too much in the handling between the trophy and the cupra just a couple of realy cheap mods and ul hae best of both worlds wit the cupra! the cupra is more unique too!
