On the manifold front i'm sure that Jabba sport would offer us thier mani with the k04 fitment as i've read before that they offer it in other guises than just ihi fitment.
It's ceramic coated too. At about £550 each they may be open to a group buy offer.

Feel on the google translation....

http://translate.google.com/transla...&ct=result&prev=/search?q=ls+cartec&hl=en&lr=

Go to the offers section on right hand side, click on link and then at the bottom.... (Its not letting me direct link?)

offer @ 849 euros, it does say a change in compressor wheel. Although is this offer only for G60?

This would work out at around £570, but need to find out details 1st and whether it would be worthwhile. No point in changing if it is not upto the spec of jacobs hybrid.

I have e-mailed him reference this turbo and hopefully he understands and translates english:)

I doubt that would include porting and polishing though.

Ive e-mailed him to ask what the difference is with his kkk k04 R and the normal k04 23

What about you buddy? Is the £1000 turbo from jacob too much for you aswell? Im sat on the fence with it, could of done with it being a little cheaper:(

A brand new IHI turbo from jabba is about £1000 for comparisons, but then that doesnt allow you to use mani/dp.

I'd pay it but i would like to know how more powerful on the road it would feel. The ihi turbo's can be imported for as low as £500 each, but ihi users always end up paying for too much repair work etc. I recon 300BHP/320Ft/lb is enough and should retain a degree of reliability. I'd probably be up for doing the install as well to keep costs down.
The cost of big turbo's are simply too much in my opinion for the usage that i'd get. A decent mani and a larger compressor'd K04 would do the job nicely for me. I also know that ATP turbo have been working on a K04-23 mani for a while know and should be near production.

Personally I wouldn't swap a perfectly good K04 for a K04R, I don't think it'll be worth it, +10bhp perhaps, who knows.

By the time you've faffed about swapping turbos, or paid someone to swap it for you, put in a 4bar and spent time logging, fiddling with settings, the £ difference between the K04R and the Imolavirus K04 isn't really that much (£300?, what's the difference if you don't do the ceramic coating on the Imolavirus?), for the gain potential of the Imolavirus one, IMHO going K04R would be penny wise, pound foolish.

On the road, it'll feel beefier, with a much better top end (mapping dependant) but it'll not make it significantly faster on the road. It'll not really feel like being remapped all over again, although 60-120 will come down.

I think your right feel with the R turbo, it doesnt look like it will be worked to the same standards as jacobs. (Polish/port/thermal coated)

Maybe sending jacob a used K04 23 turbo might be a better idea to get the costs down, it would save the cost of a new k04 which is probably why its expensive.

Jabba manifold £550
Jabba IHI £1000
Jabba DP £300
Exhaust Link pipe £175
Jabba TIP £150
440cc Injectors £250
Larger MAF £75
Jabba Fitting Kit (bolts gaskets/seals etc) £100
Jabba sports cat if you do not already have 1 £250
Jabba boost controller if you do not already have 1 £150
Jabba remap £475
Coolant return pipe turbo to block £60
Coolant feed pipe to turbo £50
Boost pipe from turbo to std pipe £75

About £3500 worth there before labour taking it to around £4000 with labour included!

Jacobs all in will be well less than 1/2 of that (£1500ish) although it will not be as goodas IHI.

Sie needs a session at JBS to see what kind of power it is putting down @ the flywheel:) ;)

Yes i ammended my post above as i was doing pricing from top of my head, although ammended list is now proper pricing. There is also no mention of uprated fuel pump which would be another £150 if required!

About £4000-4200 all in

You will get the turbo delivered to your door for £1000.

It may not even need mapping, just a tweak on your SPS, or revo stage 2 will take care of it? £100

FPR/MAF can be had for around £100 meaning all this can be done for about £1250.

When you compare it to the jabba pricing of IHI at £4000 it is a hell of difference;)

So who is still up for it?

1. Mitch
2. James
3. Scotty B
4. Wild Willy

Remember if we get 6 people we save another $100 (about £55) but better than a kick up the arse.

Jacob will be putting pricing up 10% after this possible group buy so you need to get in now really!

And remember the offset of your old tubby, probably about £250 on ebay!

The LS cartec turbo differences are...

bearings
axle
comp. wheel
turbine wheel
comp. housing inlet is larger then orig.

max. overboost on a 1,8T about 1,8 bar

reg. alex
L&S Cartec

Ive emailed him back to see the power rating of the turbo:)

Edited....

His reply....

about 0,3 bar more as the K04-023 or 026.
= about 20 HP more

What do people think of this? A group buy on this and find a UK company that will port/polish and coat it or just go direct to Jacob for it?

Further Update Reference delivery times and sending Jacob a K04 for modification

From the time the orders are placed/confirmed to the time of shipment, I would say 10-12 days for all of the turbochargers to be completed. Shipping costs were estimated using a shipping time of 2-5 days so around 2 weeks from the time of order until the time the turbocharger is received.

The only difference between the turbos is the threaded whole, I have doubled checked this in the KKK parts breakdown catalog just now.

Most of the reason for the cost on the K04-23 hybrid is due to the initial high cost of the new K04-23 that we modify. I would be more than happy to turn used K04-23’s into the hybrids if people wanted to send in their K04-23’s. One requirement we do have when doing hybrid upgrades to used turbochargers is that the unit is rebuilt at the same time. We will not build the turbocharger and apply our warranty while using used internals, no matter what the mileage is on the turbo. To maintain the highest level of quality and reliability from the turbochargers, using used internals is just not something we will do.

So, retail cost for the hybrid upgrade would be:

Compressor side and Turbine side upgrade: $600

Rebuild: $250

Port/Polish: $125

Ceramic Coat: $100

Total: $1075

For the groupbuy, if you can get 6 total participants (any combination of new hybirds or those who have their own turbos upgraded) I can offer the same 15% discount giving a new total of $913.75. Turn around time on these units would also be 10-12 days from the time I receive the customers turbocharger

The rebuild includes all new factory KKK soft parts like journal bearings, thrust bearing, retaining clips, collars, o-ring, ect…The turbocharger is built to the same specification as was described in the description of the new hybrid. Warranty would be the same as the new turbo at 1 year.

Quantity wise, I have parts to be able to build about 6 K04-23 hybrids on top of the 6 new complete hybrids that are available.

So it is possible if you can get hold of 1 to send him a K04 for modification and its doubtful whether you will be subject to import tax as its your property in the 1st place.

Why scotty?

I enquired about sending him a K04 as opposed to him sourcing 1 from new to help costs!

He is willing to receive a used K04, rebuild it and make it into his specification for $913. This includes all new parts aswell so its a turbo refurb to make it like new again!

All you need to do is find a K04 turbo to send him.

Or option 2, let him source the turbo and modify it and pay $1500-1600 as explained before!

The LS Cartec 1 is another option that we can look into and that is from Germany, although does not come Port/polished or thermally coated and is not tried and tested like Sie's.

You missed import tax off yourprice didnt you?
Maybe we could get them delivered to C.I. to avoid this?

The issue i have with sending my turbo is that the T3 hole on mine is "loose" so i have an iffy turbo to start with
