Yesterday i installed the kinetic kit ( this is the kit )

The manifold is a lot bigger than the stock one and by the way it didn't need any mods to fit.

The turbo (001) was delivered in a genuine borg wagner box.

the only extra part i bought is a 4bar fpr (bosch item), this is because my map is running a 3bar fpr so is a cheap way to get the extra needed fuel.

we replaced the vaccum hose that it goes to the egr valve, the stock one has a T fitting for the 2port k03 wastegate, the k04 has single port wastegate

after we bolt all the parts we got the car on the road....

first impression is that it has less lag than before (full boost @ 2500rpm) and is running a bit rich at idle and low speeds.

then we test a wot run and we see 1.7bar of boost and it holding 1.2 at 6000rpm, the car is having a monster torque but it didn't seem too happy at the upper revs, i look to the o2 volt and i see 0.78-0.80 :censored: LEAN!!

so i decide to lower the boost with a custom bleed valve, a 8mm T fitting, in place of the n75 (but still connected to its fuse)

i took the vag-com and went for logging

the results were great

the car makes 1.1overboost and it hold 1bar until 5500 then it drops 0.8 at 6000

CF is only 0.8 at 4th cyl at low rpm. the other cyl's are 0 (EKO 100 fuel)

AIT was 42c when the ambient temp was 33c

o2 volt was .90v

the car is a lot faster than before!!!

today i will test it to see how it has improved.

next step is a boost controller to raise the boost at high rpms.

A K04-001 is just as it says, a K04! There are loads of different variants of K04-*** turbos. A K03 with K04 internals made by someone like Turbo Dynamics is a K03 Hybrid.

L.R.C - With the K04-001 you will be able to run higher boost than you are. Get the map tweeked. Its not worth the risk not having it right.

Yeah its a k04 but only by name and not what people are talking about when they normally say k04. Its pretty much a k03s and will give k03s power maybe a tiny bit more and is nothing like a k04-02x which come on LCR, TT 225 and S3 which is what people are normally refering to when they say k04. It does not have k04-02x internals.

Alex had 260bhp from a k03. Would it last long...no. Peak figures mean little if they compromise reliability and the turbo expires after a short time. Its about what the majority get not one or two odd figures.

A k04-001 is basically a k03s. Only difference is the inlet is slightly larger and compresor wheel is different Im told. For the extra cost of k04-001 its pointless.

basically yes but still its not the same.i got mine cheaper then a ko3s so for me it`s no problem..but i hope someone comes with so dynopappers with k04-001

Dont we all to end this shite debate once and for all.

What would be good would be to see a k03s and a k04-001 run back to back on the rollers.

But then i suppose the argument of map and mods would then come into it.

if it can run slightly more boost, then its a better buy than a k03s, but not worth upgrading from a k03s.
250bhp is still about 20bhp more than mine though lol
