You know you have a Mk2 when you find out it has a VW gearbox........

Yes, I hear you say, they all have VW gearboxes.........

No, when you find out the gearbox on your car actually started out life in a 1990 Mk2 Golf Gti.

my old mk2 gearbox went so got a vw one with the same part number, different gear ratios completely lol

you know you have had a mk2 when you have a mk1 leon fr tdi which you love, but you still miss your mk2 1.4

you know you have a mk2 16v when it starts perfectly for weeks then decides to not start when you're late, and then inexplicably start up fine when you go to investigate!

..... when youve learnt to carry everything on your lap becuase theres no glovebox due to airbag, no cupholders due to no glovebox (not that the polo ones held the drink in place anyway), the only thing you can fit in the tiny excuse for a door pocket is half a wispa and anything left on the backseat gets thrown around when getting to excited on the b-roads.... and everything on the front seat gets thrown off when braking after the b-roads :D

...when you take out the stereo and find this little blue plug close to the standard ISO power and speaker plugs, and you have absolutely no idea what its for, and more importantly why its unplugged...

...when your fusebox is laid bare for all to see becuase the little plastic clips that hold in the retard glovebox (after you've realised that the airbag has robbed you of the sensible one) that you glued last time finally have given up the ghost...

...when the rear door cards ride over the rubber seal becuase you have taken them off too many times...

...when you have to come up with really ingenious ways to run aftermarket speaker cable to the front door speakers...

:D I drilled funky li'l holes in the white plastic plugs in the end - wasnt too sure how good the original cable is and I've got a set of Alpine Type X components in the front - ooh that reminds me of another one -

...when you have to make your own speaker mounts under the original tweeter covers if you want to chage them for anything decent!

:D I love my little beast - its like Mecchano! :D

I used the original wires for my front JBL components and Ive had no problems. Would probably run better cable if I was amping them up.

Had to do exactly the same with my front tweeters. Although my 1.4 just had normal 10cm speakers under there before.

you know you have a mk2 ibiza when you take it in for a cambelt change and you feel the need to warn the mechanic about it's "character"

....."...errrr don't rely on the handbrake mate..it'll roll off ya ramp!"....."say please and it should start..."........."be carefull with clutch...it's very stiff.."....and oh yeah "i drove off with the locking wheel bolt key attatched to a wheel so I don't have it!":cartman:

...."OH....it's supposed to rattle like that!"

Easy one!!! Its the cable for the standard CD Changer, the other end will be tucked under the boot floor carpet somewhere.

Thats good as I have the same blue plug. Although the other end isnt under the boot carpet. What is the other end of the cable like?

I have a plug just under the rear speaker grille on the passenger side, but I dont think that it will be for the cd changer though just looking at the connector thing on the end.

Aha! Thanks v much - I'll stop panicking then :). Although it does lead me to feel miffed that my standard 8v Gti 2.0 never got the standard CD changer - Pedro obviously couldn't be a**ed to install it for me
