Winter Pack?

Hi everyone

I've been browsing this site for a while now and usually everything I need to know is on here somewhere but I can't find an answer relating to what operates the heated washer jets included in the winter pack?

I've been through the user manual (I know it's sad)! and I can't see anything relating to what switches the heated washer jets on or any mention if they are automatically controlled by the external temperature sensor.

Any techies out there that have any ideas as to what makes them work?

Cheers
JT:rolleyes:

I've got the winter pack on mine.

Next time I have my multi meter handy I will see what's at the terminals of the washer jets with the de-mister on/off. I think JC's probably right though.

Some rather old VW info on the Web suggests they are on all the time the ignition is on and that they use a PTC heater. That has a positive temperature coefficient meaning it will draw less current (and so give less heating) at high temperatures than at low.

My guess is that they are all the time the ignition is on so long as the air temperature is low enough.

On page 99 of my manual it says the heat output is controlled automatically when the ignition is on, depending on the outside temperature.

Just having them on when the heated screen is on wouldn't do; icy air flowing over them would freeze them up long after the interior heating had removed the need to have the heated screen on.

my mk4 ibiza has heated washers, do you think they would work the same way? Shame they don't heat the bottle itself to stop it from freezing up!
