White smoke on idle and very slight stuttering.

I have recently noticed my car has alot of white smoke coming out if it especially when idle in traffic, it smells a bit sweet, or running rich kind of smell. Also the last few days i have noticed a very infrequent stuttering mainly on 50% or less load, no pwer loss when booting it and still holds a healthy 20psi.

Another thing i remember is a few weeks ago it would sound a bit tinny/high pitched metal sound on start up until it was warm but now this has stopped (it always sounded like this, even my old one did). I dont know if it is related?

Its a 210 LCR with open cone and stage 1 amd remap with standard exhaust.

I just get the feeling something isnt quite right with her. Any ideas??

Thanks

Also I know its cold but when I drive it struggles to get over 70 degrees unless im stationary. .. the temp will rise then.

Are you loosing coolant or oil? there are other places that can leak one into the other, not just the head gasket.

That'll be your Thurmostat then. Cheap and easy fix.

stuttering mainly on 50% or less load
Boost - vacuum leak, and/or temp sensor/thurmostat.

White smoke is normal on a cold morning.

My cap get.s some build up like that, it's just condensation, usually short journeys are the cause as the engine doesn't get hot enough to burn off/evaporate the condensation.

I usually only drive 4 miles each way. Take it for a longer drive and it clear under the cap nicely.

Temp gauge not going up could be the thermostat. Mine used to sit at 90 whilst stationary but would often go down to nothing when on motorways.

Without a video of your (smoke) it's hard to tell.

We get this every year when the coold/damp weather starts. You sure the (smoke) isn't just steam like your breath on a cold damp morning? Your engine is sucking in liters and liters of cold damp air and it exit's through the exhaust as hot damp gas and then condensates into steam.

The muck on your oil filler cap is normal for a car that does short trips. Give it a proper run and I bet it will go away. It's down to the PVC system recirculating stuff that would be better off going into a catch can. Lots of people have catch cans for this very reason.

I really wouldn't worry but it would help you to upload a video so we can confirm that it's thick smoke or whispy steam.

When I first got my Cupra I panicked when I saw the steam from the rear, There was loads of it whilst sitting at traffic lights.

usually mists the rear window 1st thing in the morning. It's normal. Doesn't do it in the summer.

Exactly the same feeling lol. Only had it 2 months and I was worried thinking something's wrong.

So where else could it be getting in?

Any links to a new thermostat please?

As for the smoke im pretty sure its steam... very whispy and does steam the back window up. Smells a bit rich but doesnt look like a "bad" white smoke now ive had a proper look.

Might be running rich if it's not getting up to temp.

Get a smoke test done for boost leaks, if you can’t see any obvious splits in pipes. Also check all clamps are snug.

Clean all the gunk out, change your oil and see if it comes back. it may just need to get hot to evaporate any water deposits. Also keep an eye on your coolant level

Thermostat is part 044121113 from http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/
Just go into your local branch and pay over the counter

Right thermostat ordered so going to change that and then give it a good run to get it upto temp and see of that clears the gunk. I only do small journeys to work and back, about 7 miles so it never gets upto 90. I expect as said a new thermostat and a good run should clear it and put my mind at rest!

If the very slight juddering doesnt cure then smoke test it is!

Thanks again for everyones help!!
