mine's permanently in "sport", but I drive smoothly and average 52mpg around the lanes here. Long motorway runs I average maybe 57....how do people get 70??

Drive in Eco and have cruise control on. the run from Leeds down to Derby on the M1 is through mostly road-works and so my cruise is set at 53mph in these sections of which one is 19 miles. after each roadwork section I let the cruise take my car back up to 2000rpm. Around town I change up at about 1200rpm on 1/4 throttle.

If I cane it in sport to see my son in North Yorkshire it will drop to 42mpg over a 38 mile run on a/B roads.

I traded in my 08 Mk2 PD140 yesterday for a Mk3 ST FR 184 DSG in white. Gets delivered in the next week or 2. Can't come soon enough.

Did 100 miles from Reading to Dudley and managed average of 39.2 Mpg....granted never went over 70 on motorway but pretty happy with that as engine still not loosened up.

I was feeling smug about my 37.3 MPG on Friday on a little trip to the seaside until I read this.

To be honest I wasn't trying too hard and in comfort, and traffic required a squirt every now and again, it's a welcome change from the ~30 MPG I normally get on my day to day trips.

I certainly won't be driving like that most of the time! Was almost falling asleep it was so boring!

Went and got my 2nd year service today.

2 hours later and £230 lighter :(
All good though apart from the MDF shows the service interval is set to longlife instead of my usual 10k/12 month service so might have to get them to change that back.

2 years already and only 13k on the clock :)

Why not just go for the 1.8 FR or Cupra with that mileage? I cover 13K miles in about 5 months :(

I know what you mean but there are times when I do a fair few more miles so it's handy when needed and still pretty cheap to run so I am happy :)

Still might upgrade to a Cupra at some point, maybe next year before the next service/mot.
I just love only paying £20 a year for tax though

The Cupra and I went for our first proper drive today (commuting along the motorway didn't really count) since I collected it last week. A nice blast through the western part of the Peak District. Some lovely roads to play on, I think I'm going to have a lot of fun (and buy a lot of petrol) with this car :)

Mine went to the garden centre and bought some pansies, primroses, violas and some compost.
Now tucked up in it's cosy garage.

Drove to Burton on Trent and back

Hit the issues created by the double fatal on the M1 southbound this morning which was compounded by 4 to 6 mile tail backs on the A6, A38 and A50 and so it took me 4 hours and 40 minutes to do 107 miles at an mpg of 52.1

Coming home, 2 hours 50 minutes and 70.1 mpg
